NEW DELHI: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat has raised concerns over what he termed as “demographic imbalance” in the country, pointing to three major factors—religious conversions, illegal infiltration, and changes in fertility rates.

Speaking on the issue of illegal immigration, particularly Bangladeshi infiltration, Dr Bhagwat on the third day of 100 years of Sangha Yatra lecture series acknowledged the argument of shared ancestry but underlined the importance of lawful processes. “Of course, our DNA is one, but there is a mechanism. One should come after taking permission, or else they should be stopped,” he said, stressing that infiltration poses long-term demographic challenges.

On the issue of conversions, Dr Bhagwat maintained that religion should remain a matter of personal faith, not external pressure or inducement. “If conversion is happening, it should be stopped,” he remarked, linking it to the broader issue of demographic imbalance.
He further added that society must prioritize providing employment opportunities to its own citizens, including Indian Muslims, rather than allowing illegal entrants to take those opportunities. Addressing the question of fertility, Bhagwat said that it should not decline below a rate of three, implying the importance of maintaining population stability.
