Trump accuses philanthropist George Soros for fuelling ‘violence’ across US, threatens to impose criminal charges

US President Donald Trump has accused the Hungarian-American billionaire and philanthropist George Soros for infusing violent protests across the United States. Trump has also threatened to sanction criminal charges against George Soros and his son for allegedly instigating ‘great damage’ to the USA. The latest accusation by Trump comes in the wake of series of crackdown initiated by the Trump administration on former politicians and other American officials, who are critical of the US President and his policies

US President Donald Trump has accused the Hungarian-American billionaire and philanthropist George Soros for allegedly catalyzing violent protests across the United States and for doing ‘great damage’ to the country. George Soros, a 95 year old billionaire through his Open Society Foundation, funds many philanthropic activities across the country. Mr. Soros was also one of the largest donors for the Democratic Party during the 2024 Presidential elections.

“George Soros and his wonderful Radical Left son, should be charged with RICO because of their support of violent protests and much more all throughout the United States of America. We’re not going to allow these lunatics to rip apart America anymore, never giving it so much as a chance to BREATHE and be FREE. Soros and his group of psychopaths, have caused great damage to our country! That includes his crazy West Coast friends. Be careful, we’re watching you! Thank you for your attention to this matter!” wrote President Trump on his Truth Social platform on 27th August.

The latest accusations of Donald Trump on George Soros is as seen as a part of the series of crackdown initiated by the Trump administration against numerous political rivals and other strategic opponents who criticize Trump’s policies. In the past months, Trump has threatened to jail his Presidential rival Kamala Harris, New York Democratic Mayoral hopeful Zohran Mamdani and others.

Trump had also ordered an investigation against former President Joe Biden and his aides. He had also suggested a criminal probe against former governor of New Jersey and one-time ally of Trump Chris Christie. Lately, Federal Bureau of Investigation had raided the Maryland house of the former National Security Advisor John Bolton, who is increasingly being critical of Trump’s foreign and economic policies. These stringent measures by the Trump administration reflect Trump’s growing iron fist in the US politics and especially against his political rivals and ardent critics.

Soros aides refute Trump’s allegations

The Open Society Foundation, a philanthropic wing of George Soros has sharply refuted these baseless allegations of Trump. “These accusations are outrageous and false. The Open Society Foundations do not support or fund violent protests. The Foundations support is for right to free speech and peaceful protest that are hallmarks of any vibrant democracy”, the spokesperson of the Foundation said in a statement.

George Soros has also been blamed for instigating migrant crisis in Europe and on the Southern borders of the United States. He is also accused for propelling mass protests. In 2024, Trump accused Soros for being behind his conviction, when Trump was convicted for concealing the hush money payments made to a pornographic actress. He alleged that George Soros controlled the public prosecutor who initiated charges against Trump.

In 2023, George Soros named his son Alex Soros as the head of the Open Society Foundations and Alex Soros is a vocal critic of Trump and has strongly supported his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris. Soros family is infact one among the largest donors for the Kamala Harris election campaign amounting to US $85 million.
