Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday received a telephone call from French President Emmanuel Macron, during which the two leaders exchanged views on the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia.

Macron shared assessment with Modi on the recent meetings held in Washington between leaders of Europe, the US, and Ukraine, and also shared his perspectives on the situation in Gaza.

Modi reiterated India’s consistent stand in favour of dialogue, diplomacy, and the early restoration of peace and stability in conflict regions.

Had a very good conversation with my friend President Macron. Exchanged views on efforts for peaceful resolution of conflicts in Ukraine and in West Asia. Reaffirmed our commitment to further strengthen the India-France strategic partnership.@EmmanuelMacron

The leaders also reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation in trade, defence, civil nuclear energy, technology, and energy sectors. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the India–France Strategic Partnership and to jointly celebrate 2026 as the ‘Year of Innovation’.

Macron conveyed France’s support for the early conclusion of the India–EU Free Trade Agreement. The leaders agreed to maintain regular contact on regional and global issues.

A recent meeting took place on Monday, August 18, at the White House between U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and a group of European leaders.

Key European figures in attendance included French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
