While addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of 79th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ambitious and visionary zeal to protect and defend the public spaces of India under uncertain circumstances. ‘Mission Sudarshana Chakra’, a defence system inspired by Lord Sri Krishna’s Sudarshana Chakra, aims at protecting the critical public infrastructure of the country during combat situation or other threats.

PM Modi exclaimed that under ‘Mission Sudarshana Chakra’, advanced weapon systems will be indigenously developed that will bolster India’s defensive capabilities and propel an accelerated momentum to the country’s national security apparatus. The announcement is deemed as an extremely crucial and timely move, in an era of spiking security threats, geopolitical volatilities and changing nature of warfare.

‘Mission Sudarshana Chakra’ fosters to develop state-of-the-art weapon systems by 2035, which will act as a solid and sturdy shield against any external threats that are assuming novel forms in an era of swiftly transforming character of combats and widening scope of national security domains. The mission is thus deemed as a visionary policy, as it seeks to revolutionize the nation’s defensive capabilities based on not current criteria, but for the security scenario that will emerge 10 years later.

Prime Minister hailed ‘Mission Sudarshana Chakra’ as a bold transformation in India’s defence strategy and said that all key locations across the country such as railway stations, religious centres, hospitals will be covered under the purview of the national security apparatus and will be constantly monitored and protected against all the misadventures.

“In the next ten years, by 2035, I want to expand, strengthen and modernize this national security shield. Drawing inspiration from Lord Sri Krishna, we have chosen the path of Sudarshana Chakra. The nation will be launching the Sudarshana Chakra Mission. We are committed to building a strong Sudarshana Chakra shield against the changing nature of war”, PM Modi said.

“Like the precision of the Sudarshana Chakra, we will also make arrangements for targeted missile action” reiterated PM Modi while describing the features of the weapon system that will have precision targeting capability and also the potential to simultaneously thwart the enemy aggression and deliver a stern retaliatory response.

As PM Modi says, Mission Sudarshana Chakra aims at expanding the ‘Rashtriya Suraksha Kavacch’ and is also another giant leap in India’s commitment for defence indigenization and developing in-house military capabilities. The mission also reflects government’s consistent effort to mould the nation’s security matrix to suit the unpredictably twirling dimensions of geopolitical architecture and protect the national security paradigm.

Prime Minister Modi credited the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative for the success and strategic edge gained in Operation Sindoor. He stated that India’s growing self-reliance is a testament to nation’s capability to act immediately and independently without relying on any other country.

“Had we not been self-dependent, Operation Sindoor would not have been possible. We would be worried about who is going to help us or who will not help us. Operation Sindoor happened because of Make in India”, PM Modi said.

“Our enemies have no idea about the capability of Make in India, which weapons are simple and which are powerful enough to destroy them in a moment. Just think, if we were not self-reliant, would we have been able to carry out Operation Sindoor with such speed?”, PM Modi added. In this direction, Mission Sudarshana Chakra will herald a new chapter in India’s indigenous defence technologies and strategic milestones.
