Mosque calls mobilise Islamist mob to attack Hindus: Parking dispute triggers communal riot in Nuh

A minor parking dispute escalated into a full-blown communal clash on Tuesday in Haryana’s Nuh district, leaving around 10 people injured and causing widespread damage. The confrontation involved residents of Mundaka and Hajipur villages and included stone pelting, glass bottle attacks, and arson, resulting in traffic snarls lasting several hours.

The violence reportedly began in Mudaka village near Firozpur Jhirka when a disagreement over parking erupted between a Muslim youth, identified as Isra (or son of Isra), and a local Hindu youth, Samay Singh Saini. According to village Sarpanch Ram Singh Saini, the conflict started after the Muslim youth refused to move his vehicle, prompting an argument that quickly escalated.

During the altercation, Samay Singh Saini alleged that he was struck on the head with a glass bottle. Following this, people from both communities joined the fight, pelting stones and setting a motorcycle and several shops on fire. Police confirmed that around 10 individuals sustained injuries in the incident.

Samay Singh, who runs a tent shop near the Rajasthan border, told authorities that he was returning to his village for a family ceremony when the clash erupted. He alleged that the Muslim youths called reinforcements from Hajipur, who arrived armed with sticks, intensifying the confrontation. “My brothers also came to help, but they too were attacked and injured,” he said.

The complainant further alleged that the accused have harbored animosity toward Hindus since the 2023 Nuh violence, when a Hindu procession was attacked. He claimed that announcements from a local mosque rallied the mob during the clash.

Responding to the incident, Nuh Police said, “As soon as the information was received, a team from the local police station and the in-charge reached the spot. The police took charge and controlled the situation. There was a minor obstruction to traffic, which has been cleared.”

Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar confirmed that two police companies were deployed to restore order. Two individuals have been taken into custody, and raids are ongoing to apprehend others involved. A formal case has been registered at the Ferozepur Jhirka Police Station based on complaints from the injured.

Authorities said the dispute began when a man from a nearby village blocked a road with his vehicle. An argument ensued, and the confrontation quickly escalated into mass stone pelting. The violent episode also saw a motorcycle and a small roadside shop set on fire.

Ram Singh Saini, the village Sarpanch, stated, “About 10 people from my village were injured. There were attempts to communalize the issue, but the police acted swiftly to prevent further escalation.”

A significant police presence, including DSP-rank officers from nearby stations, was deployed to secure the village. By evening, Nuh village was fortified with heavy security as authorities launched a manhunt to apprehend those responsible for the violence.
