Kamal Haasan, actor turned politician and now a Rajya Sabha member from DMK quota has said education only weapon to defeat Sanatan dharma endorsing deputy CM Udhya Nidhi Stalin who vowed to eradicate Sana tana dharma two years ago.  Critics say Kamal Haasan, who is known Hindu phobic and self avowed Christian, has reflected the mindset of DMK to show his gratitude for making him a parliamentarian. Politically he has failed and his MNM is a damp squib as it was rejected by the TN public”.

Participating in a function organised by actor Surya’s NGO , Kamal Haasan said “Education is the only weapon to break the shackles of dictatorship and sanatan dharma. Don’t pick other weapons. If other weapons, the ‘majority ‘will defeat you. Majority morons will defeat and knowledge will be defeated.

Atleast #Surya film will be liked by his action. Now actor @ikamalhaasan made his life worst . https://t.co/t2I5F4QSpM

He also criticised the NEET saying laws can be redrafted only through education. The actor said NEET blocks poor students from pursing medical education.

Recently Makkal Nidhi Mayam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan made his parliamentary debut, taking oath as a Rajya Sabha MP.  He said “Don’t take anything else in your hands, only education. We cannot win without it, because the majority can make you lose. Majority fools (Moodargal) will make you lose; knowledge alone will seem defeated. That’s why we must hold on to it (education) firmly.  He called for calling for deeper public investment in knowledge systems and social empowerment.

Kamal Haasan said ““In cinema, we are crowned for our performances. But in social work, we are given a crown of thorns. It takes a strong heart to accept that crown. No one else will do this for us, we have to do it ourselves.”

Proving his loyalty to DMK and a sign of gratitude to it, he echoed DMK’s strong aversion to NEET,  the Kamal Haasan said “You can’t see doctors of such a batch next year. There is a reason for what I’m saying, as after 2017, they are unable to continue their efforts. Now do you understand why we oppose NEET? Since 2017, that law has made such children unable to get education.  Only education can provide the strength to change that law”.

Reacting to his rants, TN BJP state vice president Khushbu Sundar said “Kamal’s rants are unwarranted. Everyone agrees to his speech that education was the biggest weapon of all. But the second part of his speech where he said sanatana dharma was uncalled for”.

Hindu Munnani, VHP and BJP leaders came down heavily on Kamal Haasan. They said he was making such remarks to please the DMK chief and CM MK Stalin.

It is pertinent to note that in 2023, Deputy CM Udhaya Nidhi Stalin had compared ‘Sanatana Dharma’ to diseases like ‘malaria’ and ‘dengue’. He also urged for its elimination on grounds that it was rooted in the caste system and historical discrimination.  Besides him, DMK MP A Raja, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan also endorsed his call to destroy sanatana dharma.

For these comments, several criminal complaints were registered against Udhayanidhi as well as pleas being filed in the Supreme Court seeking action against him. They are pending. Now , according to critics, he might have been encouraged by DMK leaders to speak and attack on Sanatana dharma to prove his loyalty for getting a MP position in Rajya Sabha otherwise which could be a dream in his career.  Kamal Haasan and brothers, as per their earlier speeches, are converted to Christianity.

Senior BJP leader H Raja had said earlier (2019) “I won’t accept that he (Kamal) is a Hindu. His brother, Chandrahaasan, died in London. Chandrahaasan’s funeral took place in a church there, and the last rites were performed as per Christian rituals”. His another brother Charu  Haasan has been mostly donning the Christian father role in films and was depicted as  doer of good.

Raja said “Kamal said during a bypoll campaign in Aravakuruchi in Karur district Gandhiji’s assassin Nathuram Godse was independent India’s first terrorist and that he (Godse) was a Hindu”.  Kamal’s  niece ( daughter of Charu Haasan) and actress Suhasini and Director Mani Rathnam couple’s son, Nandan studied Christian ethics and philosophy.

Critics say “If we viewed in that context, Kamal is allegedly part of abrahmic elements to weaken the sanatana dharma and nothing new in his rants.  Earlier such lobby tried Seeman through his NTK and Kamal Haasan with MNM to form a government with a Christian CM face to go ahead with their agenda.  It did not work out the way they wanted. It was an utter failure as they failed to gain public support to replace the two Dravidian majors namely the DMK and AIADMK.  Now they are banking fully actor Joseph Vijay’s TVK.  Most of top and key functionaries of Vijay’s party are from Christian community which is a proof of who is behind him”.
