In a significant action against unauthorised construction and Waqf property misuse, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on July 14, 2025, demolished the illegal nine-storey building Sana 7 situation near Rangwali Chali, Astodiya Gate in the Jamalpur area. The building was constructed by Salimkhan Jummakhan Pathan, who is under investigation for illegally administering the Kacha Masjid operated by the Gujarat Waqf Board.

According to the officials, the demolition drive was carried out under heavy police protection due to the scale of the operation. Early in the morning, Corporation staff and fire brigade teams reached the site, but the work was delayed until police order was arranged.

The illegal construction began in 2019 and despite multiple notices and sealing actions, the building was completed over three years. The first notice to stop the construction was served on 11th September 2019, and a final notice to vacate and cease usage was issued on 11th January 2021. Subsequently, a case was filed in the Gujarat High Court, where Pathan tried to secure a stay order, but the court did not grant relief.

Most residents living in Sana 7 were unaware that the building was unauthorised. Flats were rented at rates of Rs 5,000–6,000 per month for 1BHK units and Rs 8,000-9,000 for 2BHK apartments. Several tenants reported that Salimkhan Pathan provided them with documents that appeared genuine, adding to the confusion.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) also conducted raids and investigations at the Jamalpur Kacha Masjid Trust Office and the Sana 7 property as part of the probe into the crores of rupees scam.

This case has highlighted serious lapses in Waqf property management and illegal encroachment practices. To curb such scams, the Ministry of Minority Affairs (MMA) has mandated that all Waqf properties must now be registered on a centralized online portal. This online registration aims to bring transparency, prevent unauthorized occupation and protect community assets.
