At least five Delhi schools received bomb threat emails on July 16 morning, marking the third straight day of such threats, police said. Police said that all the emails have been deemed hoaxes, but searches are underway as a precautionary measure. The emails claimed explosive devices had been planted on the school campuses.
According to Delhi Police, the schools that received threat emails on Wednesday include St. Thomas School in Dwarka, Vasant Valley School in Vasant Kunj, Mother’s International School in Hauz Khas, Richmond Global School in Paschim Vihar, and Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in Lodi Estate. St. Thomas School received threat emails twice in two days.
Multiple teams from the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), local police, and bomb detection squads were dispatched to the schools. Students who had arrived were evacuated outside the gates, and their families were informed.
A senior police officer said, “We received alerts early this morning from schools about the emails. Bomb detection and disposal squads, along with special cell officials, were deployed. We are investigating the emails, but nothing suspicious has been found so far. All parents and school staff have been informed.” The email was reportedly received around 8 am.
The officer added, “In the past three days, around 10 schools and one college have received similar bomb threats.” On July 15, St. Thomas School and St. Stephen’s College received threats and were evacuated. No suspicious items were found, and the threats were declared hoaxes. On July 14 , bomb threat emails were sent to the Navy School in Chanakyapuri, the CRPF School in Dwarka, and a school in Rohini.
Police have yet to identify the sender of the emails this week. Meanwhile, Sardar Patel Vidyalaya sent a message to parents: “Dear Parents, due to a potential bomb threat received this morning and on police advice, Sardar Patel Vidyalaya will remain closed today. A Bomb Disposal Squad is conducting a full sweep of the premises. We will keep you informed. Parents of students who travel independently are requested to pick up their children from either the junior school gate or the senior school ground gate. Students using the school bus will return as usual.”
