Mohali: On the intervening night of July 11–12, four men dressed as Nihangs abducted a woman in her own car, pushed her out on Airport Road in Mohali, and drove off with the vehicle in the early hours of Friday.

All four accused were arrested within 10 hours from a gurdwara following swift action by the Haryana Police.
The stolen car was recovered from the gurdwara compound in Shahbad, Kurukshetra, 70 km from Mohali.
“We were initially blind in this case. Our teams meticulously traced CCTV footage and tracked the vehicle via toll plaza cameras. The victim was later found abandoned near a mall on Airport Road,” said Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans.

According to the complaint by Ritashu Tanwar, the incident occurred on the intervening night of July 11–12. The woman and her male friend were returning from Bestech Mall in Sector 66 after watching a movie when they were intercepted by four men, dressed as Nihangs, riding a motorcycle.

One of them allegedly dragged Ritashu out and took the driver’s seat, while the others harassed the woman sitting in the passenger seat. The group then drove off with the vehicle and the woman still inside.

“Thankfully, she (the abducted woman) was thrown out unharmed and the suspects fled,” said SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans. Multiple police teams worked the case. The coordinated effort helped trace the suspects. The SSP further said that they planned to sell the car in Delhi.

It is to be noted that one accused, Shamsher Singh of Gazipur in Gurdaspur district, turned out to be a granthi himself. The others in custody are cabbie Satnam Singh of Ludhiana’s Raune Kalan village, and two security guards from Nawanshahr — Nirmal Singh and Chander Mohan alias Jaildar.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Sohana police station, including 304(2), 74, 137(2), and 3(5).
