Narayanpur: As the security forces tightened grip in the interiors of state’s Maoist-hit Bastar division, cadres of the proscribed group are leaving the outfit at a rapid pace.

In the latest development reported from Narayanpur, a total of 22 Naxals (Maoist) have parted ways with the banned CPI (Maoist), making a comeback into the mainstream.

14 male members along with 8 female cadres of the group announced their return to the mainstream in presence of officials from the police and security forces on July 11.

According to police, the surrendered cadres were carrying a collective reward of Rs 37. 50 lakhs. They were given immediate financial assistance of Rs 50000 as per the provisions made in the ‘Surrender Cum Victim Rehabilitation Policy’ of the state.

As per officials, one of the surrendered Naxals was identified as Sukhlal alias Manku Kunjam, a divisional committee member of the unlawful group, carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakh on his head.

Most of the Maoists who returned to the mainstream on Friday were members of the Kutul, and Nelnar area committees of the Maoist group active in Abujhmad and Indravati region. The officials on the occasion also made an appeal to Maoists, urging them to return to mainstream and live a peaceful life.

Notably, the development has taken place days after a dozen Maoists including 9 carrying rewards surrendered before the officials in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on July 9, announcing their return into the mainstream of society.

The surrendered took place before Superintendent of Police (SP), Dantewada Gaurav Rai under the ‘Lone Varatu’ (an appeal for home coming in Gondi) campaign. Those who parted ways with the outfit were disgruntled with the hollow ideology of Naxals and discrimination faced by them in the group.

It is worth mentioning here that of late the security forces have intensified anti-Maoist campaign in Bastar’s hinterlands, neutralising hundreds of Maoists including top cadres in separate encounters.

Reacting to the development, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on X informed that a total of 1476 Maoists have surrendered since the formation of the incumbent government.

“1476 Maoists have surrendered in our government. This is the result of our new surrender and rehabilitation policy and government run people’s welfare schemes,” he said.

— Vishnu Deo Sai (@vishnudsai) July 11, 2025

The CM praises the ‘Niyad Nelanar’ scheme, stressing that it has instilled hope in people, inspiring them to leave violence and return to the mainstream of development. He said that “people now wants to walk on path of development not guns”

He added that the government is committed to rehabilitate these surrendered Maoists alongside eradicating Maoism from its roots by March next year.
