A 26-year-old man has been arrested by Bengaluru Police after a woman raised concerns on Instagram about a social media page posting videos of women filmed without their consent in public areas like Church Street and Koramangala.

The woman discovered she had been secretly recorded and reported the video, requesting its removal, but received no response. Following the video’s circulation, she began receiving vulgar messages from strangers.

In a video posted on Instagram, the woman called out the account, writing in the caption: “This person roams around Church Street pretending to film the ‘chaos,’ but in reality, they just follow women and secretly record them without their consent.”

In the video, she explained, “I didn’t want to do this, but nothing else has worked. I’m a student in Bengaluru, and a video of me was filmed inappropriately on Church Street and posted online without my consent.”
She alleged that the account, which claimed to feature “street scenes” and had over 10,000 followers, was actually stalking and secretly recording women—many of whom appeared visibly startled or unaware they were being filmed.

Calling it a “serious breach of consent,” she emphasised that being in a public space or having a public Instagram profile does not equate to giving permission to be filmed.

Unable to tag the page directly after reporting it, she appealed for help by tagging @blrcitypolice and @cybercrimecid in her post. Following her complaint, Bengaluru Police arrested 26-year-old Gurudeep Singh, identified as the person behind the account.
