Muslims in Nalgonda town have raised objections to the construction of temple ghat road to the Brahmamgaari gutta that houses ancient temples dedicated to Durga Devi and Brahmam Garu Math, which are visited by large numbers of local devotees for centuries, calling the construction passes through the waqf land.

The road works to hill began on July 6 under the directions of the District Collector. Muslims allege that the construction is being carried out without proper permissions and without consulting them, as the land is claimed to be Waqf property.

Speaking to the media, Muslim leaders demanded, “Do not construct the road on Waqf Board land. The proposals must be withdrawn immediately. Hold discussions with Muslim leaders first.” They cited the presence of the Lateef Saheb Dargah on the hill.

The Muslims also accused the Congress government of betraying the Muslim community after coming to power with their support in elections.  They particularly questioned the role of Congress leader and State Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy in this matter.

Further, the protesters demanded the removal of a water tank allegedly built on Waqf land and warned that religious sentiments should not be hurt. A formal complaint has been submitted to the Waqf Board CEO, and they warned that authorities would be held responsible if the matter escalates.

Among those who participated in the press conference were Maulana Ehsanuddin, MIM district president Razioddin, MA Hafiz Khan, advocate Masood Ali, Syed Ibrahim, Jilani, and others.

Sources say Muslim Congress leaders have accused AIMIM of politicising the peaceful construction of roads and disturbing harmony in the town.

Speaking to Organiser, Ramesh, a resident of Nalgonda town, said, “The Brahmamgaru Gutta is centuries old. Devotees trek the hill throughout the year, and the road construction is intended to make access easier for them.
