Ranchi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on June 30 chargesheeted a key Maoist operative in connection with a case related to revival of Maoist terror group in Jharkhand, said the agency in an official statement issued.

As per the agency, a supplementary chargesheet was filed against Maoist operative Bachcha Singh alias Bachcha Babu Singh alias Mukesh alias Mu, before the NIA special court Ranchi on Monday.

The accused who was apprehended in January this year was the General Secretary of the Mazdoor Sangathan Samiti, a banned unlawful outfit as declared by the state government under section 16 of the Criminal Law (Amendment Act), 1908.

The case was initially registered by the police at Anandpur police station of Chaibasa in July 2022 following arrest of three Maoist couriers/cadres associated with CPI (Maoist). Several incriminating letters were also seized from the possession of the accused.

The NIA took over the investigation by re-registering a case in August 2023 and named a total of 9 accused including Bachcha Singh in connection with the conspiracy to revive the terror group in the state of Jharkhand. One of the accused Lazim Ansari however was shot dead in an encounter with the police in June 2023.

The agency’s investigations into the case revealed that the accused Singh was associated with top leaders of the CPI (Maoist) and was actively involved in collecting funds and other incriminating activities aimed at spreading and strengthening the terror outfit in Jharkhand and other places. The case is being probed further by the NIA.
