Oh Muruga, Oh Muruga, Oh Muruga
1. Please come riding on a peacock. Come with your vadi vel (Long spear) Give me comfort, suitability, fame, Penance, ability, wealth and importance;
2. There are several devotees here, Please give all of them freedom, Oh end of the endless Vedas , Oh end of Asuras, Oh Vadivela of the desired form;
3. Oh Meaning of Vedas, come, Oh bravery, oh fire, come, Vadivel who dries the sea of worries, Of all those who keep on worrying;
4. Oh relative who lives in Indra’s capital, Shower your grace, I surrender, surrender Oh Subrahmanya, Oh Velava who is like a flame, Which is angry and drives away all ills, I surrender;
5. In the temple called wisdom, In your lap which is your grace , Please come with a blazing Vel, Please shower your grace so that, The entire world gets a rich new life;
6. Oh Teacher, Oh son of Lord Parameshwara, Oh flame which grows inside a cave, Please give me a work and its result, Oh commander of devas, I surrender, I surrender
–Mahakavi Subramania Bharathiar, in his famous poem Muruga, Muruga, Muruga Translated by P.R.Ramachander

When the entire world was busy discussing Iran-Israel war, a significant event took place at Madurai in Tamil Nadu on June 22, 2025 called The Murugan Bhakthargal Aanmeega Mannadu. A massive confluence of devotees of Lord Murugan was organised by Hindu Munnani, which was attended by lakhs of devotees from various parts of Tamil Nadu and beyond, immersed in devotion and determination. The presence of Andhra Dy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan along with all sages and leaders of various Hindu sects has reset the narrative in Tamil Nadu, beyond the political messaging.

The event that was supposed to be purely socio-cultural took an ugly political turn due to the dictatorial tendency of the Stalin-led DMK Government. The Dravidianism that rests on the hatred for the inclusive Sanatan culture that believes in multiplicity of faiths and divisive agenda of North Vs South always uses the administrative machinery and emergency like policies to stop any activity pertaining to Hindu culture. As it happens with the annual Route March of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), DMK Government tried its best to create obstacle in the event through police machinery. Hindu Munnani finally had to seek the court order to organise the event which underscored the inherent Hindu cultural roots of the Tamil society.

Vadi Vel (Long spear) of Lord Murugan symbolises strength and prosperity. The event that recreated Arupadai Veedu shrines (the six holy abodes of Lord Murugan in Tamil Nadu), virtually turned into a symbol of defiance against the demonic forces that intend to eliminate Sanatan Dharma. Dravidianism rooted in the colonial construct of dividing Bharat on various faultlines failed miserably in fulfilling the promise of casteless, dignified society. Instead, it has promoted dynastic corrupt form of politics that promotes enmity and hatred for others on caste, religious and linguistic lines. Through Murugan Confluence people of Tamil Nadu gave a befitting response to this century old project with the message of unity and inclusivity. Andhra Dy Chief Minister’s strong message in Tamil has created a strong undercurrent in Tamil Nadu. The resolutions passed in favour of liberating temples from Government controls and ensuring unity of Hindus for restoring dignity of devout people of Tamil Nadu symbolises resurgence and resistance at the same time.

The battle for Hindu unity and Sanatan Dharma is not about politics and religion but about national awakening. Mahakavi Bharathiar revered Himalayas and Ganga in his poems and leaders like M G Ramachandran believed in ‘attack on Himalayan region as attack on Tamil Nadu’. From Kailasa to Kanyakumari, this land of spirituality stands for sacredness for all. Different languages but same spirit, different paths but same destiny and different forms but oneness of divinity, are the foundational principles of Hindu Sanatan Dharma. People of Tamil Nadu are Dharmic in their personal lives but Dravidianism has systematically curtailed that spirit in collective life. Madurai Murugan Confluence of Devotees has provided the collective expression to that inherent Sanatan culture and values. We must sustain this turning point in Southern parts of Bharat as a symbol of resurgence and resistance for celebrating diversity while realising the inherent unity of this ancient Rashtra.
