21 Bangladeshi intruders returning from Gujarat were arrested in two separate operations by Assam police in Cachar district. The arrested Bangladeshi who had been working in Surat for the last 6 years were arrested in the Katigorah area of Cachar district in southern Assam on 23rd June. They were returning to Bangladesh via the international border with the help of local handlers when they were intercepted and later arrested by police. The Bangladeshi intruders were first held by locals for their suspicious movements and later handed over to police.

In the first incident, locals intercepted two Auto Rickshaw in the Hilara locality in the Cachar district near the International border, where 9 Bangladeshi were caught. They reached there via train and were moving to a transit location. Locals questioned the suspected travellers and found that they were Bangladeshi nationals and entered India 6 years ago. On their confessions, 5 more Bangladeshi intruders were captured in the Bishambharpur area late in the evening. Kubad Uddin, a local taxi driver, was also detained by police for helping the intruders.

All of the captured Bangladeshi nationals were working in Surat, Gujarat and returning to Bangladesh. They left Gujarat, seeing the identification process and crackdown by Gujarat police and administration. They were planning to cross the International border with the help of local touts. All of them were later handed over to Cachar police.

Earlier, Cachar police arrested seven more Bangladeshi intruders while planning to cross the International border. This group of Bangladeshi were also returning from Surat to cross over to Bangladesh. It should be mentioned that over 100 Bangladeshi were arrested in Katigorah in the last month, and 21 were arrested in operations on Saturday and Sunday.

Police have registered two separate cases and started further investigation. Police sources said that Gujarat police have been informed about the development. Further investigation will help police in accessing the numbers of Bangladeshi intruders illegally living and working in industrial cities like Surat.
