Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the efficient governance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has transformed into a state with unmatched road connectivity. Once known primarily for its historical and cultural heritage, the state is now rapidly gaining recognition as the “Expressway State” of India, playing a pivotal role in powering the country’s economic engine.

Over the past eight years, Uttar Pradesh has unlocked its “Unlimited Potential”, making remarkable strides in infrastructure, especially in the construction of expressways. These high-speed corridors have not only improved connectivity but also opened new avenues for trade, tourism, industry, and job creation. The expressway projects have significantly reduced travel time, improved logistics, and created a robust framework for future urban and rural development.

Currently Operational Expressways in Uttar Pradesh

As of now, seven expressways are fully operational in the state, ensuring smooth and efficient travel across various regions. These include major projects such as the Yamuna Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, and others.

Nine New Expressways Proposed/Underway

Adding to its infrastructure boom, nine more expressways are either proposed or under various stages of implementation. These upcoming routes are designed to provide last-mile connectivity, link economic hubs, and bring remote regions closer to mainstream development.

According to the latest official data, several expressway projects in Uttar Pradesh are currently in the proposed development phase, reflecting the state’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure expansion. The upcoming projects include the Chitrakoot Link Expressway (15.20 km), Lucknow Link Expressway (49.96 km), Farrukhabad Link Expressway (90.84 km), Jewar Link Expressway (74.30 km), Jhansi Link Expressway (118.90 km), Vindhya Expressway (320 km), Vindhya-Purvanchal Link Expressway (100 km), Meerut-Haridwar Link Expressway via Muzaffarnagar (120 km), and the Chitrakoot-Rewa Link Expressway (70 km).

These projects have been strategically planned to improve connectivity between key districts and neighboring states, with a focus on boosting access to critical regions such as the upcoming Jewar International Airport, the Bundelkhand region, the Vindhya hill belt, and the industrial corridors of western and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Once completed, these expressways are expected to play a vital role in accelerating economic development, reducing travel time, and strengthening the overall transport network of the state.

The extensive expressway network has directly contributed to massive employment generation during both construction and post-construction phases. The better logistics and easier access to markets have made Uttar Pradesh a preferred destination for investors, especially in sectors like manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, and agro-processing.
