During a recent visit to Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made a culturally symbolic proposal to rename the Akbarpur Bus Station after the revered Shiv Baba Dham, a prominent religious site in the region. While delivering a speech at a public function, the Chief Minister questioned the relevance of the existing name, stating, “Why should the name of the bus station be Akbarpur? It should be named after Shiv Baba Dham.” He emphasised that the new name would reflect the spiritual and cultural heritage of the area and resonate deeply with the sentiments of the local population.
In a related announcement, Yogi Adityanath officially declared that the bus station would be named “Shravan Dham Bus Stand”, paying tribute to Shravan Kumar from the Ramayana, known for his unparalleled devotion to his parents. Similarly, the Tanda Bus Stand will be renamed “Jairam Verma Bus Stand”, in memory of the late Jairam Verma, a respected leader from the region. These renaming decisions, according to the Chief Minister, will help to preserve and promote the religious and cultural identity of the area and foster a sense of pride among the people.

Beyond symbolic gestures, the Chief Minister’s visit was marked by the inauguration and foundation-laying of 194 development projects worth Rs 1,184 crore. These include 102 inaugurations and 92 foundational stone-layings covering essential sectors such as roads, electricity, Jal Jeevan Mission pipelines, law enforcement, and irrigation systems. A new fire station was also announced for Bhiti tehsil, addressing a long-standing local demand. He assured citizens that development funds will not be withheld, particularly for religious and tourism-related projects.
The Chief Minister also underscored the success of various welfare schemes during his tenure. Under the Mukhyamantri Krishak Durghatna Kalyan Yojana, compensation worth Rs 561.86 crore has been distributed to over 11,600 families across the state, including 431 beneficiaries from Ambedkar Nagar alone. He emphasized the government’s commitment to inclusive welfare by announcing continuous hiring across key sectors, including healthcare, childcare, and policing. As a notable achievement, he cited the induction of over 12,000 women into the police force, reflecting efforts to strengthen gender representation in public service.
In a sharp political message, UP CM Yogi criticized dynastic politics and caste-based favoritism, asserting that job distribution in earlier governments was often confined to a single family. In contrast, he said, his government follows a merit-based system that offers opportunities for all, regardless of caste or region. He also reinforced his zero-tolerance policy on crime, stating that anyone disturbing the peace would face consequences “remembered for seven generations.”
The renaming proposals, deeply rooted in cultural revivalism, were welcomed by many locals who see them as a step toward restoring traditional identity and pride. However, some political commentators have advised that such changes should involve wider public consultation to ensure community consensus and historical sensitivity.
The event marked another chapter in the Yogi government’s ongoing campaign to blend development with heritage preservation. Through large-scale public investment, social welfare delivery, law-and-order assurance, and cultural reclamation, the Chief Minister has reiterated his vision for a new Uttar Pradesh, modern in infrastructure, strong in governance, and deeply connected to its spiritual roots.
