In a powerful expression of patriotism and public sentiment, the Chennai Padaippalargal Sangamam—a gathering of over 100 writers, YouTubers, journalists, and content creators—passed two major resolutions on June 15 during its inaugural event held in Guindy, Chennai. The first resolution extended full support to the Central government’s Operation Sindoor and commended the armed forces for their decisive action against Pakistan-based terrorists. The second resolution urged the Centre to declare April 22 as National Tourism Day and to organise a Kashmir Sangamam on that date, underscoring the region’s emotional and strategic importance in the Indian consciousness.
The event, presided over by Padma awardee Nalli Kuppusamy Chettiyar, began with a musical performance that included nationalistic songs, among them compositions by the great poet Mahakavi Subramania Bharathiyar.
Nalli Kuppusamy Chettiyar stated that we are enjoying peaceful days across the country due to the constant vigilance of our armed forces, who remain undeterred even in the worst inclement weather, operating on a 24×7 basis. The dignitaries also paid floral tributes to Subramania Bharathiyar.
The gathering observed one minute of silence in memory of the victims of the Pahalgam attack, the fallen military personnel, and those lost in the Ahmedabad Air India crash.
On this occasion, film director Mohan G. Kshatriyan and Kizhakku Pathippagam publisher Badri Seshadri delivered scathing criticisms of those who made disparaging remarks against our defence forces and the Central government, accusing them of harbouring an anti-Bharat mentality. They emphasised that such voices should not be given importance, but that events like this are essential to raise awareness among the masses. The success of the operation, they stated, was due to decades of planning, strategic manoeuvring, precise execution, and the use of sophisticated and modern arms made in Bharat. The world has come to recognise India’s military strength and arsenal.
Retired Major Madan Kumar elaborated on how Operation Sindoor was carried out using weaponry displayed by Bharat. He asserted that India had sent a strong message to the world, including the two nuclear nations—Pakistan and China—about the consequences of any aggression or skirmishes with Bharat. “Our warfare capabilities are far superior to those of other nations,” he added.
During the welcome address and explanation of the event’s objective, senior journalist Nambi Narayanan highlighted the reasons for organising the meet. He noted that soon after the Bharat government launched Operation Sindoor, a group of individuals identifying as ‘progressive writers’ sought to belittle the operation and the government’s efforts, demanding a ceasefire. He pointed out that they failed to understand this was not a war but an action against terrorists who had brutally murdered innocent Hindus in Pahalgam in front of their families, including their wives. A woman survivor was left behind with a chilling message: “Tell your Modi about our killings.” On social media and YouTube platforms, voices from the so-called “0.5 front fraternity” echoed pro-Pakistani sentiments. Their joint statement, he said, was purely anti-national. To counter this narrative and remove that blemish, the Sangamam organisers have resolved to hold such events across Tamil Nadu.
The meeting passed two key resolutions. National Chinthan Forum state organiser and journalist Va. Mu. Murali read out the resolutions, which were adopted unanimously. The first resolution expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Central government for Operation Sindoor. The attendees offered their heartfelt condolences to those martyred during the operation and to the victims. The second resolution urged the Central government to declare April 22 as National Tourism Day and to organise a “Kashmir Sangamam” on that day.
Scores of retired defence personnel from the three wings of the military were felicitated as a token of appreciation for their service to the nation. This was followed by the Pena Munani Karutharangam (Edge of the Pen Symposium), in which writers such as N.C. Mohandas, Prabhakaran, Sougath Ali, Deve Priya Anand, Jayashree Saranathan, Ganesh Kumar, Omampuliyur Jayarama, Gayathri Suresh, and others participated. Jayashree Saranathan noted that the word Sindoor was used even during the Ramayana period.
As per sources, the meet, limited to select writers due to time constraints, saw nearly half of 200 invitees attend, reflecting strong patriotic sentiment.
During the Vetri Sindooram (Sindoor Victory) session, poets presented their compositions. Senior journalist and Isai Kavi Ramamnan praised the organisers for expressing gratitude and appreciation for the role played by the defence forces in a nationalistic manner.
