The Trump administration has intensified its crackdown on illegal immigration. Extensive raids were conducted across various locations in Los Angeles yesterday. The National Guard and police forces arrested approximately 400 individuals, including several protesters. According to international media reports, 330 of those detained lacked proper documentation. Additionally, around 157 people were arrested on charges including attempted murder of a police officer and obstructing law enforcement operations. A case has also been filed against two youths accused of throwing petrol bombs at police personnel. Several journalists were injured during the during protests. Media outlets, citing the Press Club, reported that the injured included journalists who had come to cover the protest.

In a further escalation, the Trump administration has deployed additional National Guard troops to support Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the ongoing raids. Reports indicate that around 500 more National Guard personnel were deployed on Wednesday, bringing the total number of troops involved in the operation to 4,000. An additional 700 Marines have also been deployed.
Los Angeles Mayor and Democrat leader, Karen Bass publicly condemned the Trump administration’s actions and declared emergency. She described the raids as “provocative”and said they had instilled fear and panic among the public. “Just a week ago, the situation was calm,” Bass said at a special press conference held in response to the escalating protests. “Things spiraled out of control after the raid began on Friday.” However, her remarks have faced widespread backlash from the public and across social media platforms.
