In a further escalation, the Trump administration has deployed additional National Guard troops to support Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the ongoing raids. Reports indicate that around 500 more National Guard personnel were deployed on Wednesday, bringing the total number of troops involved in the operation to 4,000. An additional 700 Marines have also been deployed.
Los Angeles Mayor and Democrat leader, Karen Bass publicly condemned the Trump administration’s actions and declared emergency. She described the raids as “provocative”and said they had instilled fear and panic among the public. “Just a week ago, the situation was calm,” Bass said at a special press conference held in response to the escalating protests. “Things spiraled out of control after the raid began on Friday.” However, her remarks have faced widespread backlash from the public and across social media platforms.

Protests in Los Angeles have intensified against the federal government’s efforts to detain illegal immigrants. A major demonstration, led by immigrant communities, took place at Paramount in Los Angeles on Saturday, which triggered a confrontation. The protests gained momentum following the deployment of the National Guard.
Immigrants make up nearly one-third of Los Angeles’s population, making the city a primary target in the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown. Last month, 239 undocumented immigrants were arrested in Los Angeles. Following President Trump’s claim that the number of arrests had declined, ICE has been instructed to detain at least 3,000 individuals per day. This target has led to widespread protests across the city.
