Raipur: Security forces on June 11 gunned down two Maoists in an encounter in Maoist-infested Sukma district. The operation is still underway.
According to preliminary information, a gunfight broke out between a team of security personnel and Maoists under the jurisdiction of Kukarnar police station of Sukma districts, leading to neutralisation of two hardcore Maoists.
The security team has also seized an automatic weapon from the site of the encounter. An extensive search operation is still underway in the area.
The development has been confirmed by Superintendent of Police (SP) Sukma, Kiran Chavan. More details about the gun battle are awaited.

Maoists triggered a strong IED explosion in Sukma district on June 9. The explosion took place at Dondra village along National Highway leaving ASP Aakash Rao Giripunje and two other officials critically wounded. ASP Giripunje later succumb to his injuries.
Earlier today CM Sai said that the government is committed to eliminate Maoist menace from the state and the country.
Interacting with the media CM Sai indicated that approximately 77 per cent of the Maoist problem is concentrated in Chhattisgarh, with the remaining 23 per cent spread across neighboring states including Jharkhand, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana.
“The government is closely monitoring the situation and working on long-term solutions,” he added.
Security forces have amped up anti-Maoist operations in the state with many top ranking members of the terror group killed in encounters in 2024-25. The union government has vowed to eradicate the menace of red terror from the country before March next year.
