Guwahati: Beef is being weaponized in Assam to push back Hindus from their properties. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that beef is being “weaponized” against Hindus in the state. Citing instances of pieces of the meat being purportedly thrown in public places and in front of the prestigious cotton university after the Eid celebration last week, CM Sarma said it has been now a weapon against Hindu community so that they vacate the area and Muslims take over.
After the June 7 Eid celebration dozens of report came out where Islamist threw beef in Hindu areas, near temples and in front of educational institutes. CM Sarma said the Bangladesh origin Muslims even started eating beef and slaughtering cows near the Vaishnava Satras. They also built Masjids parallel to the Satras which has created a confrontation and non-negotiable point, the cm said.
He further added that to evict the Hindu population from Satra areas the Muslims started large scale encroachment and slaughtering cows near the Vaishnavite Institutions. They weaponised both these methods to evict Hindu population from Satra areas. If things remain same after two decades they will throw beef infront of Kamakhya temple. It is now high time that Assamese people should non compromising stance to protect themself, the CM added.
Meanwhile, as normalcy returned to the Dhubri town following three days of upheaval, the Dhubri district administration on Wednesday withdrew prohibitory orders and restored commercial facilities. After demonstrations over the discovery of chunks of flesh (beef) near a temple in Dhubri town on Sunday, the area’s law and order situation worsened. Administration bulldozed many illegal food carts and hotels which were allegedly selling beef in the town. Selling beef in hotels and restaurants is prohibited in Assam.
