Two individuals, including a former TV anchor, have been arrested by Noida Police for allegedly running a Rs 65-crore blackmail racket. The accused, Shazia Nisar and Adarsh Jha, reportedly extorted money from senior officials of a private news channel by threatening to frame them in false sexual harassment cases.

Initial investigations revealed that Shazia Nisar previously worked as an anchor with a private news outlet, while Adarsh Jha was associated with the digital wing of another media organisation.

According to the police complaint, the accused initially demanded Rs 5 crore, later raising the amount to Rs 65 crore. Authorities have secured audio and video evidence of the threats made.

Following the complaint, Noida Sector-58 police launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of Shazia Nisar and Adarsh Jha. During a search at Nisar’s residence before the arrests, police recovered Rs 34.5 lakh in cash.

The duo was produced in court and has been remanded to 14-day judicial custody. Police say the investigation is ongoing to identify any additional individuals linked to the extortion racket.
