On June 4, President Donald Trump announced a full-entry travel ban on nationals from 12 countries, including Afghanistan, a neighbour of India. The list also includes Burma, Iran, and Libya. In addition, the leader imposed travel restrictions on citizens from seven other countries.
We issue Travel Advisories with Levels 1 – 4. Level 4 means Do Not Travel. This level is assigned based on local conditions and/or our limited ability to help there. These places are dangerous and you may be putting yourself at extreme risk by visiting.

According to a White House press release, the proclamation imposes a full-entry ban on nationals from 12 countries deemed ‘very high risk’ due to insufficient screening procedures, ties to terrorism, or lack of cooperation with US immigration authorities. These countries include Afghanistan, Burma (Myanmar), Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.
"We cannot have open migration from any country where we cannot safely and reliably vet and screen… That is why today I am signing a new executive order placing travel restrictions on countries including Yemen, Somalia, Haiti, Libya, and numerous others." –President Trump pic.twitter.com/ER7nGM4TO2

Partial restrictions have been imposed on Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela, limiting the issuance of both immigrant and nonimmigrant visas—including B-1, B-2, B-1/B-2, F, M, and J categories. These measures are based on high visa overstay rates and inadequate cooperation with US law enforcement.
The White House defended the move by citing specific concerns: Taliban rule in Afghanistan, state-sponsored terrorism in Iran and Cuba, and a surge of illegal migration from Haiti during the Biden administration. Countries such as Chad—with a 49.54 per cent overstay rate for B1/B2 visas—and Eritrea—with a 55.43 per cent overstay rate for F/M/J visa holders—were highlighted for failing to comply with US immigration laws.
Countries Listed in the Proclamation
Fully Restricted (12):
Afghanistan, Burma (Myanmar), Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen
Partially Restricted (7):
Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, Venezuela
President Trump stated, “We will reinstate the travel ban, often referred to as the Trump travel ban, and continue to keep radical Islamic terrorists out of our country, as upheld by the Supreme Court.”
