In a suspected hate crime that has triggered outrage across Telangana, VHP leader and Goraksha activist Gyadari Rajaram was brutally attacked on June 1, 2025, by a mob of seven individuals allegedly linked to cow slaughter activities. The attack, laced with casteist abuse and death threats, took place while Rajaram and fellow activists were on their way to Sajidpura, Siddipet.

According to FIR No, registered at PS Siddipet-II Town, the accused — identified as Katike Javeed, Sohel, Afroz, Ameer, Yakub, Geeshan, and Inthiyaz — not only abused Rajaram and Merugu Ajay using casteist slurs, but also threatened to kill them, targeting them for belonging to the Scheduled Caste (Mala/Madiga)  community. According to the complaint filed, the assailants threatened:
“SC Mala Madiga kodukulara, meru Hinduvula gurinchi pani chesthe champutam. Mammulanu adige dammu evadiki ledura?

Translation: “You SC Mala Madiga, if you work for Hindus, we will kill you. None of you have the guts to question us. …).

The mob threatened to kill them and then proceeded to attack Rajaram, Ajay, and others with sticks, iron rods, and knives, causing serious bleeding injuries. Victims were rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment.

The FIR cites offences under multiple sections, including 292, 118(1), 351(2) r/w 3(5) BNS, and Sections 3(1)(r)(s) & 3(2)(va) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act, 2015.

Responding to the incident, VHP Telangana spokesperson Dr. Shashidhar condemned the attack in strong terms, alleging that cow slaughter fanatics orchestrated the assault with an intent to murder.

— Dr.Ravinuthala Shashidhar (@shashidhar147) June 2, 2025

Speaking to Organiser, Dr. Shashidhar said, “This was a premeditated attack on a Gorakshak, and it raises serious concerns. Cows are sacred, and smuggling them to slaughterhouses is not only illegal but also a blatant violation of the law. What’s worrying is that the accused may feel emboldened due to their vote-bank value and perceived religious affinity with certain Congress leaders. This attack reflects a disturbing pattern in Congress-ruled states, where cow smugglers appear to have a free hand and Gorakshaks are increasingly targeted. We strongly demand strict and immediate action from the police and authorities.”

Cheri Giri, the complainant and Rajaram’s sibling, speaking with our team, stated:
“This wasn’t just a personal grudge — it was a hate-filled attack aimed at our identity, our faith, and our dignity. My brother was targeted for being a Dalit and a VHP worker.”

The VHP has taken responsibility for ensuring Rajaram receives the best possible medical care, and representatives have already met senior police officials in Siddipet, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.
