Mohamed Sabry Soliman, a 45-year-old Egyptian national, is facing multiple federal charges after attacking a peaceful pro-Israel demonstration in Boulder with a homemade flamethrower and Molotov cocktails. The suspect reportedly told investigators that he had spent a year preparing for the terror attack and learned how to make firebombs through YouTube videos.
The rally, organised by the ‘Run for Their Lives’ movement, was held on Pearl Street to raise awareness about Israeli hostages held by Hamas terrorists in Gaza. Soliman, who entered the US legally in 2022 but overstayed his visa, approached the group disguised as a landscaper before launching firebombs into the crowd, seriously injuring 12 people between the ages of 52 and 81.
According to authorities, Soliman raised ‘Free Palestine’ slogan during the attack and later stated that he had targeted the group because they were ‘Zionist people’. He attempted to buy firearms earlier but was denied due to his immigration status. Instead, he made 18 firebombs and a homemade flamethrower using information sourced online.
Officials said 16 unexploded incendiary devices were found in his bag. The event had just begun when Soliman ignited the device and threw it at the participants. Witnesses described seeing smoke and fire erupt as people tried to flee. He was subdued by bystanders before police arrived.
The FBI and Boulder Police Department confirmed that Soliman acted alone. A federal grand jury indicted him on multiple counts, including attempted murder and hate crimes. Prosecutors emphasised the ideologically motivated nature of the terror attack.
No fatalities have been reported, but several of the victims were hospitalised with burns and injuries. The ‘Run for Their Lives’ event was part of a larger global movement occurring weekly in over 230 cities against Hamas terrorism.
Soliman remains in custody on a $10 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court later this month. Authorities continue to analyse his digital footprint and background, including the online resources he used in preparation.
