Another attempt to derail a train in India was foiled on June 1, in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, thanks to the quick action of an alert loco pilot. Miscreants had placed large stones and an iron angle between the tracks on the Bareilly-Pilibhit railway line near Dohna, in the Bhojipura police station area.
The target was train number 05307 Tanakpur-Bareilly Junction Passenger. In addition to the obstruction, the earth wire of the TRD (traction distribution) line was found broken at two points, with parts placed dangerously on the track.
Spotting the obstruction in time, the loco pilot immediately applied the emergency brakes and alerted the control room. The police reached the scene promptly, cleared the tracks within 20 minutes, and the train resumed its journey. A joint investigation by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and local police is underway.
This incident adds to a series of similar sabotage attempts in Uttar Pradesh in recent months. On May 31, 2025, in Shamli district, an alert loco pilot spotted a 12-foot iron pipe, ballast, and a broken concrete tube placed on the tracks, preventing a potential derailment of the Delhi-Shamli MEMU train. This marked the fourth such attempt in May alone, raising serious concerns about railway security in the region.
Earlier in January 2025, a large rock was found on the Bareilly-Pilibhit line near Bijauria railway station. The rock split into two pieces after being struck by the engine of train no. 75302, which was travelling from Tanakpur to Bareilly City. Fortunately, no injuries occurred, and the train resumed its journey after inspection.
