ABVP holds Chaatra Samman Yatra at University of Delhi against Rahul Gandhi and NSUI, effigy burnt in protest

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) recently staged a "Chaatra Samman Yatra" at the University of Delhi, culminating in the burning of an effigy, to protest against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the National Students' Union of India (NSUI). The protest stems from a controversial unannounced visit by Rahul Gandhi to the Delhi University campus last week, which the ABVP and university authorities claim violated institutional protocol and disrupted student governance

New Delhi: In response to the unauthorised visit of Rahul Gandhi in Delhi University and the misconduct by NSUI activists who blocked Delhi University Student’s Union Secretary Mitravinda Karanwal from entering her office and misbehaved with her and several other students, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on May 26 organised a massive ‘Chaatra Samman Yatra’. The march began from Kirori Mal College and concluded at the Delhi University Student’s Union office where ABVP activists burned an effigy of Rahul Gandhi as a mark of protest.

It is to be noted that on May 22, Rahul Gandhi visited DUSU without any prior notice. During this period, NSUI activists not only stopped DUSU Secretary Mitravinda Karanwal from entering her own office but also misbehaved with her. They even tried to forcibly evict students who were present in the office. This act was not only undemocratic but also reflect ed a deeply disrespectful and anti-women mindset. In protest this incident, ABVP help demonstrations across campus and the Chaatra Samman Yatra.

Delhi University Student’s Union Secretary Mitravinda Karanwal stated, “The incident on 22 May was not just personal for me, it concerns the dignity and pride of every female student. Despite being an elected representative, the behavior I was subjected to is a direct attack on democracy. The students of Delhi University will never accept such a mentality. ”

Delhi University Student’s Union Vice-President Bhanu Pratap Singh added, “The behavior of Rahul Gandhi and NSUI towards to the DUSU Secretary and common students is a blot on democracy and dignity of student politics at Delhi University. This mistreatment of an elected representative is not just a result of poor thinking but also a deep-seated contempt for women in leadership. ABVP’S Chaatra Samman Yatra is a strong and clear resistance against such mindset.”

ABVP Delhi State Secretary Sarthak Sharma stated, “Our Chaatra Samman Yatra and today’s protest are not just against a political party but against a distorted mindset that seeks to deny women their rights. This is the same mindset that questions the valor of the Indian Armed Forces and shames the nation by raising doubts about Operation Sindoor. NSUI has once again proven that it neither stands fot student welfare not for women’s dignity. ABVP has always stood up against such disgraceful behavior and will continue to do so.”
