Timekeeping with Sanatana Science: World’s first Panchanga clock unveiled blending with modern technology

Shri Harinath, an Indian innovator, has developed the world’s first Panchanga Clock — an electronic wall clock that visually and digitally displays key Panchanga elements like Nakshatra, Tithi, Rashi, Lagna, and more, in a familiar dial-and-pointer format. This pioneering timekeeping device aims to bring back the sacred Panchanga system to the forefront of daily life by making it accessible, understandable, and practical for every Bharatiya household.

The Panchanga — the traditional Hindu calendar — is far more than a datebook. It is an intricate system that preserves thousands of years of cultural, spiritual, and astronomical knowledge. It forms the spiritual spine of Hindu society, guiding everything from festivals and Vratas to weddings, housewarmings, homas, and samskaras. The Panchanga Clock is a revolutionary step towards reviving this time-honoured system and ensuring its continued relevance in the digital age.

With Shri Harinath, the inventor of the world’s first Panchanga Clock. This is an electronic clock that displays the key Panchanga Elements like Nakshatra, Rashi, Tithi, Lagna etc. with dials and pointers similar to a regular wall clock. Amazing innovation. Unlike regular clocks, this unique wall-mounted device not only shows Gregorian time and date, but also maps the dynamic positions of the Sun, Moon, and Earth against the backdrop of fixed stars — all depicted with analog-style rotating dials and pointers, giving a realistic planetary view. Built with a graphical and digital display, it visually represents the core Panchanga elements in real time.

The graphical interface provides the following:

  • Moon Position: Nakshatra, Rashi (Moon sign), Tithi, and Paksha
  • Sun Position: Solar Month (Saura Masa), Sun Sign (Ravi Rashi)
  • Earth-Horizon Alignment: Lagna (Ascendant sign), Suryodaya (Sunrise), Chandrodaya (Moonrise), and their current positions in the sky

The digital interface augments this with:

Current Time & Date

  • Shaka and Kali Yuga years
  • Samvatsara (Year Cycle)
  • Uttarayana/Dakshinayana (Sun’s North/South journey)
  • Ritu (Season)
  • Chandramana Masa (Lunar Month)
  • Yoga, Karana
  • Weekly Vara (Weekday)
  • Daily Panchanga highlights like Rahukala, Gulikala, Yamaganda Kala
  • Festival alerts and National holidays

With this wide-ranging functionality, the Panchanga Clock not only informs, but educates and inspires reverence for India’s ancient wisdom.

Each Panchanga Clock is customised based on location — configured to the latitude, longitude, and timezone of the place it’s intended for. Whether you follow the Solar or Lunar calendar, the clock adapts accordingly. Its versatile multilingual support — English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu — ensures accessibility across India’s diverse linguistic and cultural landscape.

Designed for homes, temples, hospitals, spiritual centres, and offices, the device runs on a 5V AC adapter, with 8 hours of battery backup. Its intelligent auto-calibration system ensures that even after a power cut or shutdown, the clock resets itself accurately.

With Panchanga data powered by Jagannatha Hora — a trusted astronomical tool with precise ephemeris data — and proprietary algorithms, the clock offers unmatched authenticity. The in-built Panchanga database is loaded up to December 31, 2040, ensuring long-term usage without additional updates.

Speaking about the inspiration behind this invention, Shri Harinath said, “Panchanga is a living heritage — it encodes the spiritual rhythm of Bharatiya life. This clock is a humble effort to bring this sacred tradition back into our daily consciousness, especially for the younger generation who are disconnected from it.”

By integrating timekeeping with Sanatana Dharma’s cosmic vision, the Panchanga Clock redefines what a clock can be — not just a tool for hours and minutes, but a guide for auspicious living, spiritual alignment, and cosmic awareness.
