Bharat showed its resolve of zero tolerance against terrorism yet again when it launched ‘Operation Sindoor ‘ in the wake of the Pahalgam attacks on innocent civilians, in which tourists were massacred based on their religious identity. Bharat did a good job, some precise hard-hard-hitting followed by the destruction of vital defence installations of Pakistan. All of a sudden ceasefire came as a surprise to many and shock to some. No doubt, people were expecting more action and probably these expectations were not as much there at the beginning of Operation Sindoor but the way it started and people witnessed Bharatiya military eleganza, the spirits and expectations rose higher and higher. The armed forces were ruthless on terrorism infrastructure with no mercy at all and at the same time very professional in not hitting civilian targets, our boundaries and installations were invincible in the wake of some super high-tech defence system.
The Bharat Government made it very clear immediately soon after the Pahalgam incidence took place that the act of terrorism shall be revenged and perpetrators of crime shall be given a very tough lesson this time. I do not think there was any doubt in the mind of rationally thinking Bhartiya people when the Prime Minister made statement to this effect, given the proven track of the Government in this regard after two major surgical strikes in the past. Good thing was that all the political parties came together and extended support to the Government and it seemed that politicians have risen above petty politics to make Government stronger in its resolve against terrorism.
The Government showed its resolve to deal with the terrorist nation with iron fist by starting with keeping in abeyance of Indus water treaty. By doing such diplomacy the Bharat Government provided an opportunity to Pakistan to take corrective action but Pak failed to do so.
The Government, meanwhile, utilised the time for preparation before launch of military offensive and eventually on the night of May 06, 2025 the military launched multiple aerial strikes on Pakistan targeting nine terrorist locations in Pakistan with precision without even entering the Pakistan air space. Worth noting is the fact that there was deep penetration, strikes were not just limited to terrorist infrastructure in POJK but also on terrorist universities deep inside Pakistan. The military hit the targets at will and with precision. The best part was that nothing was left to imagination or ask for evidences. The unworthy Pakistan media went gaga all over showing how India struck them with visual proofs. The destruction of terrorist sites and killing of terrorists was accepted by the Pakistan itself and shown to world over visual media.
It is not that Bharat did such destruction being blindfolded to consequences that might follow from Pakistan in wake of Munir’s threatening speech, in particular, which was given by him few days before Pahalgam incidence took place. We were very well prepared for the retaliation that could follow, and, it happened. Pakistan launched series of aerial attacks using various drones including swarm drones and also missiles. Nation was well prepared to defend itself and the world witnessed how our state-of-the-art air defence systems neutralised such ghastly endeavours of Pakistan. There were escalated troops movement and heavy shelling by Pak at the LOC as well but the same was responded by proportionate retaliation. Even on this front Pakistan had to bear losses of much higher proportions.
The world witnessed military prowess and valour of our armed forces. All that the current dispensation has been doing for defence procurement for over last more than a decade showed the best results that we would have visualised while making such purchases. Purchase of S 400 defence system which was opposed not just internally but also internationally was done by the Bharat Government despite all the odds. Purchase of advances Hi Tech fighter jets Rafael was strongly opposed and criticised by the internal forces but the Indian aerial forces proved every worth of it. This is just to mention a few. More than the international procurement, what was amazing was performance of indigenously developed weapon systems like Skystriker drones, Aakash among others and mention of Brahmos which led to demolition of multiple air bases was a feather in cap. The performance of indigenous weapons of Bharat have given the domestic arms industry a global edge and exposure to big arms market.
In my view, getting POJK was not at all the defined agenda of the Operation Sindoor. Destruction of terrorist sites, display of will and military prowess to the crooked Pakistan and teaching the terrorist nation was the prime objective and the objective was very well achieved.
In what looked as coming together of differently aligned political forces of Bharat in fight of Bharat against terrorism did not last long, unfortunately. As soon as the ceasefire took place at the behest of loser Pakistan, the domestic political parties started labelling the ceasefire as weakness of Bharat. They undermined the achievement of our armed forces and started comparing it with achievement of armed forces in 1971 war under Indira Gandhi’s leadership. Within minutes the social media was abuzz with comparison of Operation Sindoor with 1971 war in which Bangladesh was created. It would not be inappropriate to mention here that 1971 war certainly won by our armed forces on battlefield but we did not achieve much on negotiation table. The opposition political forces took a long leap backwards to 1971 and deliberately missed events like 26/11 which were never responded to by the ruling dispensation at that point of time. Wish the leap backwards had gone to 1948 when ceasefire created a new territory for Pakistan named as Pakistan Occupied Jammu Kashmir (POJK) till today.
It is time to celebrate the victory of nation and valour of armed forces, the resolve of ruling dispensation and also the mighty exposure of the terrorist nation who wraps up the bodies of terrorists in national flag giving them the state funeral.
No doubt, the prime minister has rightly said that our country has set a new normal of dealing with terrorism.
