In a strong stance against terrorism, the All India Imam Organisation (AIIO) has issued a decisive fatwa declaring that terrorists should neither be offered Namaz-e-Janaza (funeral prayer) nor be given space for a grave on Indian soil. The fatwa calls upon people not to provide even two yards of land to terrorists, symbolising a complete societal and religious rejection of terrorism.
The fatwa, issued by AIIO’s Chief Imam Dr. Umer Ahmed Ilyasi, states that offering funeral prayers and burial to terrorists is against the tenets of Islam. “Islam is the path of peace, not violence. Terrorists defame Islam across the world with their brutal acts. Therefore, no Imam or Qazi will perform the funeral prayer of any terrorist killed in the country,” Dr. Ilyasi said. The declaration firmly asserts that even in death, terrorists must not be honoured with Islamic rituals or Indian soil.
In a separate fatwa, Dr. Ilyasi also condemned Pakistan-backed banned terrorist organisations Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, stating that using the name of Allah by such groups is non-Islamic. He affirmed that these names misrepresent Islam and are completely against its principles.
This bold religious stance comes in the backdrop of a heart-wrenching terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, where innocent tourists were brutally murdered after being asked their religion. The gruesome killing has shaken the entire nation to its core.
Following the Pahalgam terrorist attack, a solemn tribute programme was held at AIIO’s Imam House, New Delhi. Religious leaders from all faiths came together to pray for the peace of the souls of the innocent victims who lost their lives in the attack. United in grief and resolve, they collectively urged the government to take decisive and concrete measures to eliminate terrorism once and for all, and to ensure strict action against those responsible for the heinous act
