Munger: A row erupted in Munger district of Bihar after over two dozen Hindu students were allegedly beaten by two school teachers for wearing Kalawa/Raksha Sutra (A sacred thread wore by Hindus).
According to media reports, parents of around 30 students reached the premises of Town High School on May 15 and raised their objection over the incident alleging two Christian teachers of the school for targeting students over Kalawa.
The guardians of the students were reportedly accompanied by a few local Hindu activists who demanded strict action against the accused teachers. They also staged a protest outside the school.
The incident took place on May 13 when students were allegedly scolded and then beaten up by Library and PT teacher for wearing Kalawas.
The school teachers on the other hand have denied the allegations and said that the students were only told to maintain disciplined during the PT and issued a warning for the same.
Upon receiving information about the protest, the district education department intervened and deputed DPO Suman Kumar to submit a report.
In a similar incident reported from Bihar’s Buxar district in September last year, a student was allegedly beaten by his school teacher for applying Tilak and tying a Raksha Sutra September 25.
A student of standard five of Carmel School, Churamanpur of Buxar, the victim had then alleged that he was humiliated and beaten up by his Sanskrit teacher for applying ‘Tilak’. He further had alleged the teacher for insulting his parents for allowing him to wearing religious symbols while attending his school. The teacher had allegedly also warned the victim student against keeping ‘Sikha’ (A traditional practice among Hindus).
