Chhattisgarh: Female Maoist gunned down in exchange of fire in Bijapur’s Karregutta, weapon recovered

The operation near Karreguta hills was launched after the police received credible intelligence about the presence of several top Maoist cadres at the said locality

Raipur: Security forces on May 6 recovered body of a female Maoist following an intense exchange of fire between a joint team of security forces and the extremists in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district.

According to the details, the gunfight broke out in the wee hours of Tuesday after which the team recovered body of a female cadre of the outlawed Maoist group in uniform. The security team has also recovered a 303 rifle from the site of the encounter.

The exchange of fire took place along the Telangana borderin Bijapur district. Several other Maoists are also likely to have been killed or sustained injuries during the gun battle, said the police in an official statement.

Notably a massive joint operation, involving separate units of the state police and Central Reserve Police Force is being carried out near the Karregutta hills along the Telangana border.

The operation was launched after the police received credible intelligence related to the presence of several top Maoist cadres in the aforesaid locality. A total of four bodies of Maoists have been so far recovered in the ongoing operation launched with an aim to free the Karregutta hills, a long held bastion of the Mao’s men along the Telangana border.

It is being speculated that several top Maoist leaders including the likes of Central Committee member Madavi Hidma and Barse Deva have taken shelter in the deep forested and unfamiliar terrain of Karregutta.

Earlier two personnel of the Special Task Force sustained injuries after being struck by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast executed by the Maoists in Karregutta on May 4. The injured personnel were immediately evacuated and shifted to Raipur for medical care.

Meanwhile a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Assistant Commander Sagar Borade also sustained critical injuries in one of his legs after he courageously step up upon an IED planted by the Maoists in Karregutta.

Borade was immediately evacuated to Raipur and subsequently taken to New Delhi for treatment where the doctors amputated his left leg to stop the spread of infection. He is said to be stable.

14 Maoists lay down weapon in Bhadradi Kothgudem of Telangana

In a related development, as many as 14 Maoists surrender before the police in Bhadradi Kothagudem district of Telangana district on Tuesday. Those who laid down weapons are residents of bordering area of Chhattisgarh and Telangana.

The surrendered Maoists were involved in carrying out various unlawful activities on behalf of the Maoist outfit. They were all inspired by the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the government.

As many as 24 Maoists carrying a collective reward of Rs 28.50 lakhs, surrendered before the police in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur on April 28, taking the tally of surrendered Maoist in the district over 200, since January this year. The surrendered cadres were all provided with immediate financial assistance. They are being rehabilitated as per the ‘Surrender Cum Victim Rehabilitation Policy’ announced recently by the state government.
