On May 3, in Madanpur, Jangalgram, Nadia district, West Bengal, Dinesh Sarkar, a BJP worker, was reportedly attacked. According to reports, Sarkar was sitting outside a salon in the Kajirbagan area when Sanjay Sikdar allegedly approached him, took a razor from the salon, and slashed Sarkar’s throat before fleeing the scene. The incident is under investigation.

Bleeding heavily, Dinesh Sarkar clutched his neck and began running for help. The attacker, Sanjay Sikdar, reportedly grabbed an iron rod from a nearby bicycle shop and chased him. Despite the pursuit, Sarkar managed to leap into a moving autorickshaw and was rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted for emergency treatment. According to the West Bengal BJP, Sarkar received 42 stitches on his neck.

The auto driver later recounted that he saw Sarkar running toward his vehicle, holding his neck, while Sikdar chased him with a rod. He stopped to let Sarkar in and immediately drove to the hospital.

Jangalgram MLA Ambika Roy visited Sarkar in the hospital and condemned the attack, accusing the ruling TMC of orchestrating violence against BJP workers. Roy told the media that Sarkar was targeted solely because of his political affiliation with the BJP.

Roy further stated that the accused TMC worker had left the area several years ago and had only returned recently. The West Bengal BJP strongly condemned the attack and, in a post on X, accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of turning the state into a “slaughterhouse.” BJP MP Shantanu Thakur also came to visit Dinesh Sarkar at the hospital. Police arrived at the hospital after receiving information about the attack. The accused is currently absconding, and a search operation is underway to locate him.
