Guwahati: In a series of coordinated operations across Assam, security forces have apprehended multiple Bangladeshi nationals attempting to illegally enter or reside in India, reaffirming the state’s zero-tolerance policy against infiltration.

In a significant catch, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Lumding Junction arrested two Bangladeshi nationals on 28th April during a routine inspection of the 13173 Kanchanjunga Express. The individuals, identified as Feroj Sheikh (35) from Bagerhat district and Moina Roshani Kashyap (31) from Khulna district in Bangladesh, were found travelling without valid documentation.

Following their detention, both were handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further investigation.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that the duo had illegally entered India about a year ago, reportedly paying human traffickers to facilitate their cross-border movement. Since then, they had been residing and working in Bengaluru, raising concerns about the potential extent of their network within the country. Authorities are continuing investigations to identify their contacts and assess any broader implications.

Meanwhile, in a proactive border operation on April 28 late evening, the Sribhumi district Police apprehended another Bangladeshi national, Md. Rabiul Islam, who was attempting illegal entry into Assam. He was immediately pushed back, consistent with the state’s strict stance on illegal infiltration.

In a joint effort, Dhubri Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) on April 27, apprehended five more illegal entrants—identified as Roni Seikh, Rinki Seikh, Yasin Seikh, along with two minors. Following established protocols, they were promptly deported back to Bangladesh.

Additionally, on April 26, six Bangladeshi nationals were nabbed while trying to illegally cross into Assam. The individuals—Md Monir, Md Ahidul Sheikh, Azizul Seikh, Rokiya Bibi, Mh. Ahashan Ullah, and Md Haresh—were intercepted by Sribhumi Police and immediately pushed back after arrest.

Speaking on the developments, Assam CM Himanata Biswa Sarma reaffirmed Assam’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding its borders. “Through vigilant and coordinated efforts, Assam stands firm against any attempts of unlawful entry. No infiltration will be tolerated,” the CM said in a post in X.

These back-to-back operations come amidst heightened national security concerns following the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack, attributed to Pakistan-backed extremist groups. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has repeatedly emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal immigrants and has ordered intensified border surveillance across sensitive areas. As infiltration attempts continue, Assam’s security agencies remain on high alert, working closely with central forces to ensure the sanctity of India’s borders.
