Raipur/Mumbai: Two Pakistani nationals residing in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district has been arrested by the police after they were found to be in possession with fake voter ID cards and other identity related documents accessed illegally, said police on April 27.

Ifthiqar Sheikh (29) and Arnish Sheikh (24), both citizens of Pakistan were reportedly residing at Kodtarai village under Jootmil police station limits of Raigarh. Both the arrested accused originally belongs to Karachi of Pakistan and was currently residing at Yakub Sheikh’s house.

According to police, both Iftiqar and Arnish acquired fake Bhartiya identity related documents by providing false information to the concerned officials despite having valid long-term visas. They have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The duo was arrested during an ongoing drive launched by the police to identify and deport Pakistani nationals residing in the state. The drive was launched following the Union Government announced to cancel the visas of Pakistani citizens residing in Bharat, instructing the state governments to identify and deport them before April 29.

13 Bangladeshi infiltrators detained in Maharashtra

In a related development, Maharashtra police detained as many as 13 Bangladeshi infiltrators working as hawkers in Mumbai.

Those taken into custody have been identified as Manorul Sheikh, Jiyaul Sheikh, Naem Sheikh, Samoun Sheikh, Rafikul Sheikh, Saim Sheikh, Halum Sheikh, Kasad Sheikh, Mainnuddin Sheikh, Jahangir Sheikh and others.

The detained individuals were all carrying fake aadhar cards all listing addresses from Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district.

Located in the eastern tip of Jharkhand, Sahibganj district shares border with West Bangal’s Malda district adjacent to the Bangladesh border.

Reports suggest that the region has an active network of agents, felicitating illegal entry of Bangladeshi infiltrators into the Bhartiya territory alongside providing them with forged documentation.

The detention of the Bangladeshi nationals carrying identity cards of the Sahibganj district has once again highlighted the concerns raised by the state opposition leaders led by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) who have been long accusing the Hemant Soren led JMM-Congress government over the issue of illegal infiltration in the state.
