Bengaluru: In a world fraught with geopolitical tensions, the language of leadership carries significant weight. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently found himself at the center of a fierce debate following his comments regarding India’s stance on war with Pakistan. His statement, “War is the last resort for any country, but war is not the first or only option. War should be waged only when all other options to defeat the enemy have failed,” has reverberated across the political landscape, provoking strong reactions both in India and abroad.
Siddaramaiah’s assertion that “India should not wage war on Pakistan” quickly went viral, garnering attention from international media, particularly in Pakistan, where it was reported as a sign of internal dissent within India regarding military action. This has led to a chorus of criticism from various quarters, particularly from opposition parties who seized upon the moment to amplify their discontent with the ruling party and Siddaramaiah himself. Critics have argued that such statements reflect indecisiveness or a lack of resolve, particularly in an era when terrorism and national security are paramount concerns.
As the controversy escalated, Siddaramaiah felt compelled to clarify his original statement, insisting, “I did not say that war should not be waged against Pakistan. War should be waged only if it is inevitable.” He added that there was significant discussion surrounding his comments, indicating that he had anticipated some backlash but perhaps did not expect the scale of criticism that ensued.
The Chief Minister’s emphasis on the failures of India’s intelligence and security systems is particularly telling. He pointed out that the recent Pakistan-inspired terrorist attack in Pahalgam underscored significant lapses that must be addressed before considering military action. “It is the responsibility of the central government to first correct this lapse and then take precautions to prevent such acts from happening in the future,” he stated.
Moreover, Siddaramaiah welcomed some of the diplomatic actions taken by the central government, such as the cancellation of the Indus River Treaty, reflecting a nuanced understanding of the geopolitical complexities at play. “We are confident that the central government will take even stricter measures in the future. There is no need to disclose all of them. We have our full cooperation in such measures,” he asserted, indicating a willingness to support defensive measures that do not necessarily involve military confrontation.
BJP leader R Ashok called Sidda Pakistan Ratna
In light of recent controversial statements made by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding India’s stance on Pakistan, prominent opposition leader Ashok has sharply condemned the CM’s remarks.
“Pakistan Ratna” CM @siddaramaiah, Ashok began, addressing Siddaramaiah directly. “Sir, you have become world famous in Pakistan overnight due to your childish and absurd statements. Congratulations to you. If you visit Pakistan in the future, you are guaranteed royal hospitality.” This biting comment underscores the outrage felt by many in India who perceive Siddaramaiah’s comments as overly sympathetic to a nation that has been a longstanding adversary.

Ashok continued, highlighting the gravity of the situation: “It is no wonder that the Pakistani government has honored you with the highest civilian award, the Nishan-e-Pakistan, as a great peace ambassador who advocated for Pakistan.” This statement effectively critiques Siddaramaiah’s rhetoric, implying that his comments align more closely with the interests of Pakistan than with the sentiments of his own nation.
“When the country is facing a very sensitive situation, when the war is looming on the border, you are not behaving like a puppet of an enemy country like this. The presence of people like you in public life is the biggest tragedy of our country,” Ashok declared, encapsulating the frustration of many who believe that political leaders should prioritise national security and unity over peace overtures that may appear to undermine India’s stance against terrorism and aggression.
Ashok’s statements resonate widely among citizens who view Siddaramaiah’s comments as a dangerous naivety during a critical time, questioning the wisdom of leaders whose public statements can significantly impact national morale and security policy.
In another X post R. Ashok has lashed out at the statements made by Congress leaders regarding the Pahalgam terror attack.
He posted on the social networking site ‘X’ and expressed his anger saying, ‘The hearts of the Congress party are beating for the fanatic Muslim terrorists of sinful Pakistan.’
