New Delhi- The atmosphere for Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union Elections is at its peak and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has shown special trust in Women Leadership. ABVP has fielded Shikha Swaraj as the Presidential Candidate for JNUSU’25 along with the highest number of women candidates for Councillor posts across schools and special centres. Out of the 5 seats in the School of International Studies, three are being contested by women candidates.
Over the past years as well, ABVP has held the torch for women leadership and representation with Velentina Brahma for Vice- President in 2015, Janvi for President in 2016, Nidhi Tripathi for President in 2017, Geeta Shri Barua for Vice-President in 2018, Shruti Agnihotri for Vice-President in 2019 and Deepika Sharma for Vice-President in 2024. ABVP once again has reiterated its commitment to empower women leadership by nominating Shiksha Swaraj as the Presidential Candidate.
Alongside Shiksha Swaraj for President, ABVP’s Central Panel includes Nittu Goutham for Vice-President, Kunal Rai for Secretary and Vaibhav Meena for Joint Secretary. Moreover, even before a formal election, ABVP has secured unopposed victories in several councillor seats establishing strong early presence. Surendra Bishnoi was elected unopposed to the sole seat in the School of Biotechnology, Praveen Piyush, Raja Babu and Prachi Jaiswal have secured all three seats at the School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies and Govardhan Singh was elected unopposed from special centre for Molecular Medicine. The victories reflect the trust of student’s in ABVP and its growing support in campus, significantly strengthening the organisation’s proospects in the coming Student Union Elections.
ABVP Delhi State Joint Secretary Vikas Patel stated, “ABVP is enthusiastic for the women leadership this year in JNUSU elections. As always, we have ensured women’s participation in Central Panel by fielding Shikha Swaraj for President. We’ve also nominated significant number of women for post of councillor across schools and special centres to ensure a proper representation and build an inclusive campus.”
