Jal Jeevan Mission brings hope and dignity to differently abled couple in remote village of Chhattisgarh

Raipur:  In a poignant testament to the transformative power of government initiatives, the Jal Jeevan Mission has brought an unimaginable sense of relief and joy to Kosi Bai, a visually impaired resident of Kadeer village, located 40 kilometers from the Narayanpur district headquarters in Chhattisgarh. Expressing her profound emotions upon receiving piped water directly into her home, Kosi Bai remarked, “I cannot see… but when I hear the sound of water falling from the tap, my heart finds immense peace. It feels like a dream has come true.”

Her husband, Mura Ram Nuruti, who is differently-abled with a disability in one leg, shares her elation. Overwhelmed with emotion, he stated, “I could never have imagined a day when we would have tap water in our own home. Now, we don’t have to endure the hardship of fetching water from the ‘jharia’ (natural spring). Seeing the water from the tap filling our vessels brings immense happiness to my heart.”

The heartwarming story of Kosi Bai and Mura Ram from the remote Kadeer village in the Bastar region encapsulates the life-altering impact of the Jal Jeevan Mission. The steady stream of water now reaching the courtyards of every home in their village has liberated them from a significant daily worry. Their story also underscores the profound difference that effectively implemented government schemes can make in the lives of ordinary citizens, often turning long-cherished dreams into tangible realities. Today, every household in Kadeer village has access to tap water, and the residents are experiencing firsthand the tangible benefits of development reaching their doorstep.

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, three solar-powered water tanks have been constructed in Kadeer, complemented by the laying of a 4700-meter-long pipeline network. This infrastructure now ensures the supply of clean drinking water to every household in the village. For Kosi Bai and Mura Ram, like many other families in Kadeer, the Jal Jeevan Mission has ushered in a significant positive change. Previously, Mura Ram, despite his physical disability, had to undertake the arduous task of carrying a ‘kanwar’ (traditional yoke) to fetch water from the ‘jharia’ daily to meet the needs of his four-member family. This daily struggle was physically demanding and a constant source of hardship. However, the Jal Jeevan Mission has now relieved him of this burden. They now receive an adequate supply of water directly at their home through the tap every day.

The successful implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Kadeer, marked by the construction of essential infrastructure and the establishment of a reliable water supply, stands as a beacon of progress in a remote region. The joy and relief experienced by Kosi Bai and Mura Ram are mirrored in the lives of other villagers who have been freed from the daily drudgery of water scarcity.

This initiative not only provides access to a basic necessity but also restores dignity and hope, demonstrating the potential of well-executed schemes to uplift the lives of the most vulnerable and bring the fruits of development to the most remote corners of the nation. The transformation in Kadeer serves as an inspiring example of how focused efforts can translate into tangible improvements in the quality of life for rural communities.
