Muslim League wants a divided SNDP under their feet; Hindu-Christian unity vital in Kerala: SNDP’s Vellappally Natesan

Asserting that the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP) is an organisation born out of struggle, Natesan said it will continue its fight for justice for historically marginalised communities, particularly the Ezhavas, while rejecting attempts that are being made by Muslim League to pit communities against one another

Alappuzha: Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP) Yogam General Secretary Vellappally Natesan has stated that alleged that attempts are being made to weaken him by distorting his words to portray him as someone who speaks about caste. “SNDP cannot be broken or divided,” Natesan declared. “What we need today is not merely Nair-Ezhava unity, but unity from Nayadi to Nasrani” (Hindu to Christian). He emphasized his commitment to this inclusive vision.

“I cannot say ‘Ma’. If I say ‘Mu’, it becomes Malappuram and Muslim. Even uttering these two letters is labeled as communalism,” he remarked, questioning the narrative against him. Natesan asserted that investigations have shown he never made any statements inciting religious hatred. “The Muslim League is relentlessly attacking me because I am not their servant,” he said. “They are trying to drag the SNDP to their feet and tie us up like animals headed to slaughter. They have divided our people and handed them over to their affluent sections.”

Natesan challenged accusations against him: “If I simply say that I have not received anything, does that amount to religious hatred?” He accused the League of portraying him as anti-Muslim and metaphorically “drinking their blood.” “We have not received social justice in Malappuram,” he claimed. “People should not throw stones at those who speak the truth.”

He alleged that the League is trying to dominate SNDP and, when unsuccessful, is attempting to divide the community. “They’ve bought our own people and turned them against us,” he said. “Some Muslim League leaders are working against us, both secretly and openly.”

Vellappally Natesan emphasised that SNDP has fought for communal justice for three decades and has succeeded in uniting much of the community. However, he noted that the Ezhava community still lacks social justice in Kerala. “While some communities have mobilised themselves into vote banks and captured power to build their own empires, the Ezhavas have remained silent.”

“SNDP is an organisation of struggle. It represents a community deprived of justice in the name of caste. Our fight continues for justice,” Natesan concluded.

Over the past week, a heated exchange of words has escalated between Vellappally Natesan and the Indian Union Muslim League, focusing on issues related to Malappuram, the perceived dominance of the Muslim community, and the political clout of the Muslim League. Natesan has openly voiced concerns about the continued marginalisation of Hindu communities, particularly the Ezhavas, in the region.
