Bijapur: Two security personnel were injured during an anti-Maoist operation conducted by a joint team of security forces in the Gangloor police station limits of Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on April 2.

The injured personnel belong to the Special Task Force (STF) and Bastar Fighters unit.

According to officials, STF constable Sant Kumar Komre sustained a splinter injury on his right hand, while Bastar Fighter personnel Mahesh Gatpalli suffered a leg injury due to a spike hole.

Both were provided immediate first aid and later shifted to a higher medical facility in Raipur for advanced treatment.

Security forces have intensified search and combing operations in the region to track down Maoist elements.

Earlier a team of security forces on Monday recovered the body of a female Maoist, carrying a reward of Rs 25 lakh from Dantewada. The security team also recovered an INSAS rifle, ammunition and other items of daily use from the encounter site.

The security forces had gone on an anti-Maoist operation in the areas of Geedam police station of  Dantewada district and Bhairamgarh police station of Bijapur, leading to a gunfight.

The woman, identified as Renuka alias Banu alias Chaite alias Saraswati, a resident of Kadvendi district, Warangal, was shot in the firing that took place at the encounter site at around 9 in the morning.

Renuka was said to be the media head of the Maoist group and a member of its Dandkaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC), the strongest formation of the extremists.

The encounter occurred hours after as many as 50 Maoists surrendering before the authorities in Bijapur district, marking a major success for the security forces.
