Malda Violence: Islamists selectively vandalise Hindu shops ahead of Ram Navami; BJP calls for action

Hindu shops selectively vandalised by mob in West Bengal

Videos purportedly showing communal violence in the Malda district of West Bengal are rapidly spreading on social media. The footage depicts Islamists marching through the streets and vandalising public property. Social media users claimed that the Islamist mob specifically targeted businesses owned by Hindus in the Mothabari area of Malda.

The videos were circulated by several politicians, including BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari and BJP MP Dr Sukanta Majumdar. Sharing the footage on X, Suvendu Adhikari alleged that miscreants were selectively targeting Hindu-owned shops in Mothabari. He called on senior police officials to take strong action to prevent further attacks.

Speaking to the media, Adhikari stated that targeted attacks on Hindu-owned properties and shops in Mothabari had been ongoing since around 1 pm on March 27.

Sharing videos of the alleged communal attack on Hindus, Union Minister of State for Education and Development of North Eastern Region, Dr Sukanta Majumdar, wrote, “Shocking scenes from Dakshin Malda’s Mothabari—Hindu homes and shops vandalized by a violent mob. And what do @MamataOfficial and her silent @WBPolice do? NOTHING. This is the result of her disgraceful appeasement politics—lawlessness, fear, and injustice for Hindus!”

One of the videos shared by Majumdar shows a violent mob attacking shops without provocation, while carrying Islamic flags. Another video depicts the destruction of property and damaged houses.

BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya also shared a video claiming to show the communal violence in Mothabari. Posting the video on X, Malviya wrote, “Communal violence erupts in Mothabari, Dakshin Malda—mobs of Muslims attack Hindu homes, shops, and vehicles without provocation. Meanwhile, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is in London, indifferent to the chaos unfolding back home.” The authenticity of the videos has yet to be verified. Additionally, no official statement has been issued by the West Bengal government or state police regarding the incident.
