Assam Against Drugs, is not just a slogan, but a mission to eliminate the nexus of drugs from its roots in Assam and not allowing our soil to be used for narco-terrorism. Since 2021, we have seized drugs worth Rs 2,600 crore in Assam, and this mission will continue.

Guwahati: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Assam Police seized 66,000 Yaba tablets, worth approximately Rs 20 crore, during a special operation in Cachar district on March 25. The raid, conducted based on credible intelligence, marks another major success in the state’s aggressive campaign against narcotics smuggling.

Massive haul concealed in false ceiling

Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Cachar SP Numal Mahatta raided the residence of Md Dil Bahar (36) in Raj Gobindpur, Baga, under Dholai Police Station jurisdiction. The Yaba tablets, a potent mix of methamphetamine and caffeine, were found hidden in the false ceiling of the house.

“The operation was meticulously planned, and the contraband was seized following due legal procedures in the presence of independent witnesses,” said SP Mahatta. Preliminary tests confirmed the presence of psychotropic substances, and authorities suspect the drugs were smuggled from a neighboring state. Further investigations are underway to dismantle the supply chain.

CM Sarma lauds police action

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the police for their relentless efforts, reiterating the state’s zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote:  “Assam Against Drugs, not just a slogan, but a mission to eliminate the nexus of drugs from its roots in Assam and not allowing our soil to be used for narco-terrorism. Since 2021, we have seized drugs worth Rs 2,600 crore in Assam, and this mission will continue.”

Recent drug busts

The Cachar seizure follows a series of successful anti-narcotics operations across the state:

South Salmara Mankachar: 8,000 Yaba Tablets (Rs 2 Crore) Seized (March 23).

– Acting on intelligence South Salmara Police raided a house and recovered 8,000 Yaba tablets, suspected to be smuggled from a neighboring state and destined for Bangladesh.

-Two drug peddlers were arrested in connection with the case.

Nagaon: Heroin Worth Rs 1 Crore Recovered (March 22)

-Nagaon Police intercepted a vehicle at Gereki and seized 461 grams of heroin.

-One suspect was apprehended during the operation.

Sribhumi: 17,000 Yaba Tablets (Rs 5 Crore) Confiscated (March 21)

– Based on reliable inputs, Sribhumi district police arrested an individual and recovered a massive consignment of Yaba tablets.

Assam’s War on Drugs: A growing success

Since 2021, Assam has intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking, leading to seizures worth Rs 2,600 crore. The state’s strategic location near international borders makes it a hotspot for smuggling activities, but enhanced surveillance and intelligence-led operations have significantly disrupted narcotics networks.

“Our forces are committed to rooting out drug menace. Anyone involved will face strict legal action,” assured a senior police official.

With multiple high-profile busts in just a week, Assam Police and state authorities have sent a strong message to drug syndicates, reinforcing their resolve to keep the region free from narcotics terror.
