Raipur: The President of Bharat, Droupadi Murmu, graced the silver jubilee celebration of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly in Raipur on March 24. In her address, the President commended the Chhattisgarh Assembly for upholding high standards of democratic traditions.

“The Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly has presented a unique example of excellent parliamentary conduct not only for the rest of Bharat but also for all the democratic systems of the world,” said the president

Underscoring the automatic suspension for members who disrupt proceedings of the Chhattisgarh assembly, the president noted that the assembly had never required enforcement by Marshalls in its 25 years history, reflecting the best parliamentary conduct.

She further noted and appreciated the presence of 19 women MLAs of the 90-member state assembly, urging the women legislators to promote women working in various walks of life.

“When all of you (women legislators) promote women working in various fields in the state, everyone’s attention will be drawn towards those women and the path of their development will be paved,” she said.

The President further highlighted the state’s rich resources alongside praising its natural beauty, calling upon the legislators to ensure sustainable development while preserving the environment.

“There are immense possibilities of development in Chhattisgarh. All of you policy makers of the state have the responsibility to establish a balance between development and nature,” remarked the president.

She further urged the legislators to ensure the participation of all sections of society in the state’s journey toward modern development. “It is your responsibility to connect all sections of the society with the modern development journey,” she added.

Touching upon the issue of insurgency in the state, the president expressed hope that the state will soon be free from Maoist menace. “The task of integrating people affected by Left Wing Extremism into the mainstream of the society has reached its final and decisive stage. I have been told that people of the Naxal-affected areas of Chhattisgarh want to move ahead on the path of development,” said the president.

“I am confident that you all will soon succeed in your efforts to completely free Chhattisgarh from extremism and add a golden chapter to the history of the state,” she added.
