Raipur: Police has detained as many as five individuals for allegedly promoting illegal conversion in a house in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district, suggest media reports. This comes after the activists of Bajrang Dal gathered near a house in Julum village and staged a protest against illegal conversion being promoted allegedly on Sunday.

According to the details, a religious gathering was called in a house in Julum village under the jurisdiction of Mujgahan police station limits. The workers of Bajrang Dal alleged that the gathering was aimed at promoting illegal conversion.

The activists accompanied with the local villagers later reached the local police station and lodged a written complaint with the police, seeking action against those involved in promoting illegal conversion.

According to the activists, they have received information regarding illegal conversion of individuals in Julum village after which they reached the spot and staged a protest against the meeting. Those promoting conversion activities were reportedly promising health benefits to a few villagers.

The villagers and the activists subsequently filed a complaint with the police and demanded strict punitive action against all those involved in promoting conversion related activities.

Meanwhile members of the Christian community also reached the police station and filed a counter-complaint on the matter. The police has reportedly detained five individuals and launched an enquiry into the case. The matter is being probed further.

It is worth recalling, that the state’s deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma has recently hinted that the state government will soon introduce a stringent law to deal with the issue of illegal conversion in Chhattisgarh.

“A stringent law will come to stop illegal conversion. There is clarity on the issue of illegal conversion in Sai’s government. Illegal conversion will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken if anybody provides information according to case, the police under current government are committed to take action. Every step will be taken to protect the Sanatani values,” said Sharma while speaking with the media personnel outside the state assembly on March 17.
