Patna: In a shocking incident that has come to the fore from Gopalganj district of Bihar, an elderly Dalit (Scheduled Caste) woman aged 75-80 was assaulted by three youths on March 14. One of the accused also allegedly raped the woman during the assault.

According to the details of the incident, the victim woman, a resident of Dharmwari police station limits under Baikunthpur police station limits had gone to nearby wheat field to cut grass when she was overpowered and assaulted by key accused Chote Alam and two of his accomplice.

Videos of the victim’s family members pleading for justice have also gone viral on the social media. In one of the videos the daughter-in-law of the victim lady could be seen highlighting the gross injustice done with the elderly lady.

According to the reports, the accused put a piece of cloth in the victim women’s mouth and thrashed her black and blue until she fell unconscious. One of the accused Chote Alam also allegedly raped the victim, threatening her not to disclose the incident to anyone.

The accused even attempted to gouge out victim’s eyes besides injuring her badly. He also tried strangulating her and fled the scene when the woman lost consciousness. The woman was later rescued by her family members in an unconscious state.

The victim’s family filed a complaint with the local police after the elderly lady narrated her ordeal to the family members after receiving medical aid and gaining consciousness on the next day. Following the complaint, the police reportedly took the victim for a medical examination and registered a case under various sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

According to the complaint filed by the victim’s son, the family members of the elderly woman also visited the house of the accused to enquire about the incident; however they were abused and treated with casteist slurs.

The police subsequently launched an investigation into the case by arresting key accused Chote Alam. The allegation of rape however was reportedly denied by the police on the basis of the medical examination. The case is being further investigated by the police.
