As the NDA government moves ahead with crucial amendments to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, open threats are being issued to intimidate Parliament and stall the process. Former MP and Chairman of All India Muslim Civil Rights, Mohammad Adeeb, has sent a warning to BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, the Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Bill.

“You inform Jagdambika Pal that he should pass the bill and then see what happens to him. We’ll show them consequences,” Adeeb declared while speaking to the media, sparking outrage over his brazen attempt to threaten an elected representative and disrupt legislative proceedings.

His remarks come as protests by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), AIMIM, and Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind escalate against the bill, despite the fact that it has not yet been tabled in Parliament. Pal slammed the protest as politically motivated, stating, “The act has not even been introduced yet. A 428-page report has only been submitted. On what grounds are they protesting?”

Pal further claimed that a deliberate attempt was being made to mislead minority communities and create a false narrative against the government.

Recently, the Union Cabinet has cleared 14 key amendments to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. These amendments, proposed by NDA members in the Joint Committee of Parliament (JCP), were approved on after a thorough review.
