Ranchi: Notorious Gangster Aman Sahu or Aman Sao was shot dead in an encounter with the Jharkhand police on March 11. Sahu was killed after he reportedly attempted an escape while he was being brought up to Ranchi from Chhattisgarh.
According to the preliminary information, Sahu was being brought up by the police in connection with the murder of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) deputy general manager Kumar Gaurav who was shot dead by criminals on March 8.
The encounter occurred after the police convoy was attacked by the members of Sahu’s gang near Chainpur of Palamu district on early hours of Tuesday. The gang members reportedly hurled bombs on the convoy and escape the scene.
Sensing an opportunity, Sahu attempted an escape. He reportedly snatched an INSAS rifle of a policeman and opened fire. The police responded by chasing and shooting him down. One police jawan has also sustained injuries in the encounter. The injured jawan was rushed to the nearby health centre and his condition is stable.
Sahu who was named in over 100 cases, attracting serious charges was believed to be running an extortion racket, targeting businessman, contractors and others engaged in coal trade in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. He was lodging in Raipur prison for the last three months.
He was being brought for questioning on remand days after the murder of a senior official of the NTPC Kumar Gaurav rocked the state. Gaurav was shot dead by criminals when he was on his way to NTPC’s Keredari office. The crime took place near Fatah area under the jurisdiction of Katkamdag police station limits.

Notably, hours before Gaurav’s murder, armed men fired shots on a coal businessman in Bariyatu of Ranchi, injuring him badly. The injured businessman Vipin Mishra was immediately rushed to the hospital.
