Bastar: In a notable development, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Friday, February 28 organised Civic Action Programs (CAPs) in south Bastar area, marking extension of the welfare initiative undertaken by the security forces in Maoist affected areas.
The development marks a significant milestone for the forces as the region was considered a stronghold of the People’s Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA), the armed unit of the banned CPI (Maoist). One of the said programs was held at Kondapalli of Bijapur, a locality earlier considered a hot bed of insurgency.
Around 300 villagers from the nearby areas attended the program held at Kondapalli which witnessed villagers taking a community launch together along collecting free medicines distributed from the medical camp.

The attendees were also provided with essential supplies like televisions, solar lanterns and school kids for children. Further bicycles along with cloths for women were also distributed during the program. The event was organised by the 170th battalion of the CRPF.

A similar program was also held at Chutwati camp of CRPF under Tarrem police station limits. The camp was located near Tekalgudem, a hotbed of insurgency.
A significant number of villagers including children from nearby villages such as Gundam, Kottaguda, Narsapur and others participated in the program where senior officials of the police and CRPF were also among the attendees.
The officials welcomed the villagers and assured them that the forces are working tirelessly to free the region from the grip of Maoist-insurgency. They further appealed to the villagers that they must freely walk in to the nearby security camp and share any of their issues with the officials.
Here too the villagers were provided with essential daily use materials along with cloths, cycles, and agricultural equipment. The officials also distributed sports and study materials among the children alongside appealing to the villagers to keep sending their children to schools.
The civic action programs being run by the central forces, aims to build trust measures alongside benefiting the residents of Maoist-hit areas by providing them with essential supplies on regular intervals.
Niyad Nellanaar scheme
It must be noted that the incumbent state government has also launched the flagship Niyad Nellanaar scheme, aimed at providing benefits of various welfare schemes being run by the Union and the state government to the residents of insurgency hit areas.
The scheme meaning “yours good village” covers all the villages falling under the radius of five kilometers of security camps in Maoist affected areas.
Notably around 40 such camps were established by the forces in the south Bastar area in last two year alone, barring the frequent unchecked movement of the ultras in remote villages.
The opening of security camps along with the continuous operations against the extremists has believed to instill a sense of security among the residents who are now aligning more with the welfare schemes of the government.
