A horrific crime has rocked Kabroee village in the Uoras police station area of Unnao district, where 19-year-old Upasana, a Class 12 student, was abducted and brutally murdered by one Tauheed Ali, on February 10.

The gruesome discovery of her dismembered body parts in a forest over a week later has left the local community in shock and her family devastated. Tauheed Ali, also 19, has been arrested and confessed to the killing, citing jealousy over a social media post as his motive.

The Disappearance

Upasana left her home on the morning of February 10 to attend her Class 12 examination but never returned. Her father, Hridaya Narayan, a home guard, grew increasingly worried as hours passed with no word from her. On February 12, he filed a missing person report with the Uoras police station. As the search intensified, authorities registered a kidnapping case, suspecting foul play.

Grisly Discovery in the Forest

The breakthrough came on Thursday, February 20, when police, combing the area for clues, stumbled upon a chilling scene in a field near Kabroee village. Officers recovered Upasana’s school bag, ID card, shoes, and, most disturbingly, her severed hand. The following day, February 21, a further search yielded her skull and ribcage scattered in the same jungle area. Police speculated that wild animals may have disturbed the body after her death, contributing to the dispersal of her remains.

The Suspect: Tauheed Ali

Suspicion quickly turned to Tauheed Ali, a resident of nearby Godwa village, who was known to be in a romantic relationship with Upasana. Acting on leads, police tracked him down and attempted an arrest. Tauheed resisted, reportedly firing a weapon at the officers, prompting them to return fire. He sustained injuries in the exchange and was taken into custody.

During interrogation, Tauheed confessed to the murder, revealing a motive rooted in jealousy. According to his statement, he had been upset after Upasana posted a picture of another man, identified as Pradeep, on WhatsApp. Enraged, he devised a plan to confront her. On February 10, he contacted Upasana and pressured her to meet him, allegedly using compromising photos or videos as leverage to ensure her compliance.

The Fatal Encounter

Tauheed’s account to the police detailed the sequence of events that led to Upasana’s death. On the day of her exam, Upasana agreed to meet him and arrived accompanied by her younger sister. Tauheed picked them up on his motorcycle, dropping the younger sister off on the outskirts of the village before proceeding with Upasana to a secluded jungle area. There, an argument escalated into violence. Tauheed admitted to strangling Upasana and slitting her throat, leaving her lifeless body in the wilderness before fleeing the scene.

Aftermath and Attempted Cover-Up

Tauheed returned to Godwa village later that day, but his actions soon raised red flags. His sister-in-law noticed bloodstains on his clothing and grew suspicious. Meanwhile, Upasana’s mother, aware of her daughter’s relationship with Tauheed, called him to inquire about her whereabouts. The call was answered by Tauheed’s sister-in-law, who mentioned the bloodstains, further alarming the family. Sensing scrutiny, Tauheed fled to Hyderabad to visit his brother, Tauseef, on an impromptu trip. He returned to Unnao on February 15, possibly believing the situation had calmed.

Investigation and Additional Suspect

The Unnao police have launched a thorough investigation into the case. CO Bangarmau Arvind Chaurasia confirmed that Pradeep, the man whose photo allegedly triggered Tauheed’s jealousy, has been summoned for questioning. Pradeep, who works in Chandigarh, was located there on the day of the murder, potentially ruling him out as an active participant. SP Deepka Bhukar emphasised that Tauheed remains the sole accused at this stage, though the investigation continues to explore all angles, including the nature of the blackmail material Tauheed used to lure Upasana.

Community in Mourning

Hridaya Narayan and his family are inconsolable, their search for answers now replaced by grief and a demand for justice. The case has also sparked renewed discussions about safety for young women and the dangers of unchecked jealousy and coercion in relationships.
